Has anyone used the Finish Line product U 7? Especially in the liquid form? I’m looking for a followup product for a horse that’s being treated for ulcers.
I use this regularly and swear by it :).
I used it while I was waiting for my Abler (BPR) omeprazole to arrive. I was pleasantly surprised with the results-- my horse’s ulcer symptoms noticeably improved. He was picky-eating, grumpy being groomed, girthy, and a bit neurotic under saddle. After about 2 weeks on U7, he was eating better, much happier being groomed and definitely calmer to ride (the way he used to be).
I used it for several years. The last three years I’ve been making a home made version. I have to admit, I think my home made stuff works significantly better , but I think that is mostly because since it is pretty cheap to make, I end up giving 4x as much or more as the real stuff and I still come out saving quite a bit :). That said, my horse is already getting msm, vit C, grape seed extract and very recently added cinnamon at much higher levels than in U7 (there several different things in very little amounts in U7 that I don’t think do much, but are used as a selling point ).
So, if your up for it:
In a gallon jug-
1 cup powdered slippery elm bark (about $3 worth)
Up to 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional, I stopped adding it because the horses like it better w/o)
100 tablets of Papaya enzyme to dissolve ($3, not part of U7)
1-3 teaspoons of cinnamon powder (more as they get use to taste- may help with blood sugar/ even energy)
Fill to top with aloe Vera juice and shake before use ($7)
OR- the super simple version (my current mix because everything else is covered in another supplement)
1 cup slippery elm bark powder
Fill to top with aloe Vera juice
Add 1/2 to 1 cup per feeding depending on horses feed and training demands. More when traveling or stressed!
Ta-da! And good luck!
I swear by it… Have been using it for the past 5 years with great results… Just wish it were cheaper
It works.
someone here coined a classic term for it–and it’s perfect! ‘Apple vomit’ it really does look like what you’d imagine! I swear, I forget it’s real name sometimes.
I really like this stuff:

I was so excited when I saw that Dover is now carrying this brand!
I use the powder form and would not be without it. Vet likes it too.
Thanks, all. I decided to try Succeed first. They have a special “trial” plan. If that doesn’t seem to work, I’ll definitely try the U 7.
I used it when I was treating my mare for Lyme…to help protect her stomach while she was receiving high dose oral antibiotics. She did really well on it.
Love this
I was given a large amount of the powder version and have been feeding it to ulcer-pony. (Full 28 day GastroGard treatment 3x over the past 4-5 years) We’ve had palatability issues when mixed in his feed, but it hides well in his alfalfa soup. Ulcer-pony is also toothless in his old age, so we’re talking about 8-10 lbs of cubes (dry weight). However, it did not prevent a severe recurrence of ulcers, complete with two vet calls in three days for unmanaged pain. YMMV.
Can U-7 (or its homemade equivalent) be used when showing? I thought Slippery Elm was something that tested and therefore couldn’t be used at rated shows?..
Otherwise, THANKS, flyracing- I will try that!
Has anyone found a big difference between the liquid and the powder?
I am about to try this for my 33 year old gelding. I have been dosing him with magna lax but he is getting tired of that. He also gets GUT, a probiotic and enzymes. I skipped giving him the magna lax last night and this morning because he was eating well and now he looks out of sorts after eating a late lunch. I hope that I can give him the U7 in his feed.
