Fire in barn 16 Lebanon Raceway OH

2 humans at least 43 horses. Crap.

So tragic. News said 60 horses (or was it a 60 horse barn?) =(

The barns there can hold

around 80 horses, they’re huge. They’ve put the total horse loss at 43 as of the local 6pm news. 2 humans lost, though they’ve not released names yet. No word on the trainers or owners either. Winter is hard enough at that track, you have to wonder if it was some kind of heater since it really turned cold last night.

Tears in my eyes while watching the news…how horrible!

They said the roof collapsed. If that was the case the horses were all doomed anyway. :frowning:

 Poor horses, poor people. My heart goes out to their friends and families.

So so so sad

Hi,
I am very sad for all the horses and the people who loved them.

Do the grooms who were killed, Ronnie Williams and James ‘Turtle’ Evans, have children and families? Is there something we can do either individually or as a group to help those left behind?

Perhaps someone who is in Ohio either at the track or nearby could let me know what the families stories are, and if there is anything we can do…

There is nothing more horrible than a barn fire - I can’t begin to imagine the pain, panic, and fear. My heart bleeds. I had a friend who leased a barn on a property with several other stables. His barn was burned down as revenge by someone who was targeting one of the other stables…they burned down the wrong barn. No one called him during the night and the next morning he rolled up to feed and found the barn gone, the fire dept. still working, and every horse that he owned plus all the boarder’s horses dead. I’ll never forget the phone call from him - he was hysterical and the firemen were holding him back from running in what was left of the barn. One of the horses was a national champion in a rated hunter division - such a wonderful animal!

Just got this via email:

Everyone is aware by now of the tragic loss of life and horses that occurred on Saturday at the Warren County Fairgrounds. Many of these folks lost everything. I have been in contact with Cathy from the Track Kitchen and she advised that there will be a benefit held on December 19th from 7-10 pm at the Warren County Fairgrounds under the grandstand. Open to all ages, entry is $10. The Track Kitchen and Kickers will be providing food. There will be a silent auction, donations are needed, gift cards, baskets, etc. Donations for silent auction can be delivered to the Track Kitchen and given to Cathy Prickett. Donations of desserts are needed. The Richard Lynch Band will be playing from 8-10pm. There has also been a fund set up at LCNB, named the Horsemans Fund; monetary donations can be made to assist the individuals and their families.
For any other questions please call Donna Campbell at 513-377-3203 or Cathy Prickett at 513-460-2172

Please send donations or items for silent auction

Hi All,
Thank you McV for posting the phone numbers for Donna and Cathy to donate to help these horsemen.

I had a lovely talk with Donna tonight, and in interest of people donating money, tack or items (since the big event is 12/19 which is coming up quickly), here is the address to send it to:

Donna Campbell
Liberty Tax Service
726 East Main Street - Suite C
Lebanon, Ohio 45036

Every little bit counts - so even if you can only afford a dollar or two or an item for the silent auction, it will add up quickly.

These people are just devastated. I’m putting together a box on Sunday to go out Monday.

Thank you all!!!
