First Cubbing Yesterday

This was with Longacre. Has anyone else started up?

Oh, and there were only five of us in the first field. Ages 40, 45, 52, 58, and 63. The 40 YO is currently in first place in the state in low jumpers, that’s the only reason we let her hang with us, LOL.

Hey, we lived near Conroe for a year or so many years ago, so I know where The Woodlands is.
My guess is in VA the cubbing doesn’t start until after the Warrenton Horse Show, but I could be wrong. I know TN Valley Hunt is having a cross-country clinic this weekend so I’m guessing they haven’t started yet.
Hmmm age-wise I’d fit right in with first field, but jumping, not so much at this point…
Pics?

We start cub hunting in a few weeks, just roading hounds now.

Had to giggle about your remarks about the 40 year old. The other day at roading folks were comparing replacement parts and surgical repairs (other than elective plastic surgery) and figured if you took all the parts and repairs and put it into one body, we have a Ghost Rider at our hunt. Knees, hips, eye procedures, pins, plates, etc.

Here are some photos:

Longare Hunt 2012-2013 First Cubbing

Great photos!

Cubbing started for us on August 15th, so a couple of week in now. So far, it’s been lovely!

I’ve only been out twice, as I work during the week. Last Saturday’s hunt was our “Children’s Hunt” which was very well attended! Was awesome to see so many junior riders out.

It never even occurred to me to look for foxhunting opportunities in TX. My sister used to live in The Woodlands- to think I could have actually enjoyed myself on the annual Thanksgiving visit and hunted! I definitely will be doing some research on this next time I visit. She’s since moved a little closer to downtown Houston, and is about 45 minutes from The Woodlands now. Still plenty close enough to check things out.

How formal is your dress during the season? It was chilly one time that I’ve been there- every other visit has been roasting.

Cammie, I will PM you.

Were you sporting that new whip ?

I am just using it as a crop, so far. You can see me holding it in photo 26. I was afraid the handle on the thing might be difficult to hold compared to a regular crop, but it was just the opposite.

Fancy that ! I thought that was you with the chin hair.

I ride with Brazos Valley and we are still roading hounds. I’m not sure when we’ll start cubbing. I’m very excited for the season to begin!

Deep Run Hunt in central VA started cubbing today, and hunted from our kennels in Cumberland VA. We were out for 4 hours, and I had 2 views on different reds, and we ran at least 3 different fox, and 1 coyote! Talk about a fantastic way to start the season  The huntsman provided a fantastic day of sport, and was quite pleased with the hounds.

We started off with a decent field of about 10 or 12 people plus staff (18 to 20 riders). I was suprised to see such a good turnout, as we set off at 6:00AM to beat the heat and have a shot at better scenting conditions. Needless to say we covered a lot of ground, and by the end of the hunt, riders and horses both were fairly worn out.

I hope everyone else’s first day is equally as exciting!

Cubbing

We start Saturday, however, I will be in class. “Delayed Gratification” sucks, but it can be a good thing.

I’ll be out on Tuesday - Good Lord willing and the creeks don’t rise.
