Someone at my barn has informed me that my 9 month old filly is acting like she’s in heat… peeing and spewing everywhere. That can’t be right, can it? 9 months is way too young for a first heat… I haven’t seen her in a couple days, so not sure what’s going on with her.
My filly was a little over a year old.
Yep, I have a 9-10 month old in their first heat before.
She can be cycling that young but also be aware that estrus “display” is also a sign of submission. Good luck!
Yep, my 9 month old will squirt like she’s in heat to an adult horse of any gender. Totally in her case submission. Usually mine have their first real cycle when they are a bit over a year old.

If by submission, you mean that she may be rearing, charging into people when being led, and striking out at them… then maybe. I think she’s definitely in heat.
Yes, I had one that started showing heat at 9 mos. as well.
Yeah, my little darlin’ isn’t a submissive one. I haven’t seen her acting like she’s in heat… she’s a bit feisty, but not unmanageable. She tried giving me some attitude today, but got over it pretty fast. Hard to know if she’s being that way because I was MIA for a couple days or if it’s because she’s in heat. They grow up much too quickly.
Is she showing heat to you? Or other horses?
