Get the book Training the Three-day Event Horse and Rider:
In the back of the book are typical conditioning schedules for the old long format and the old one star to four star using the old ratings. While these will be more than you need to do, it will do an excellent job showing you what a comprehensive conditioning program should look like. And you’ll start to get a good sense of what’s appropriate for the level and then add in what you know about your own horse.
When we went to the short format there were a couple years there that everyone thought these types of programs were no longer relevant, but smart riders quickly realized that shortening the format didn’t significantly change the need for a rigorous conditioning program–at least not nearly to the level it was predicted it would. Even listening to this year’s Olympics there was commentary that the riders who were old enough to have experience conditioning for the long format did a better job preparing for Tokyo.
Tons to learn from the book, you won’t regret buying it.
