Fixing lash on whip

I have a bunch of whips accumulated over time, where the lash came off. Not because of hard use, but they seem to break of way before the whip itself is bad. Are there any tips as to how to fix the end to still be able to use them? Or should I just get myself to throw them out

Many tack shops sell replacement lashes.

I buy replacement lashes, and zip tie them on (because the end is toast by the time the lash is).

Thanks! I was wondering how to attach the replacement to the broken end

Same technique works for dressage whip crackers

thank you! Unfortunately the ends of my whips have the fiberglas interior rod sticking out and the netting is frayed.

Cut the fiberglass down. Pull the mesh over the end. Melt or glue the end. Follow above video instructions.

OR!

Electrical tape, like everyone else does*

OR!

New whip

*or glue the mesh in place, then use heat shrink tubing over the gap and add the cracker after that.

SUPER suggestions!! I have two whips I love and canā€™t get the same type anymore

Hereā€™s another! Glue down the end of the mesh then use thick thread to ā€œwhipā€ the end tight by wrapping it around carefully for about an inch of whip length. Glue that down, then add the cracker. I might pop the heat shrink tubing on top of that just to be safe.

Related whip repair questionā€¦ I decided to, for the first time ever, buy a nice dressage whip instead of the cheapest brightest one. Before even taking it back out of the car I managed to kink and break the bottom two inches of shaft, still inside the woven cover. Is this fixable? Iā€™m so disappointed.

Sounds like a great idea too! Will give it a try! Thanks

thatā€™s a bummer!

if itā€™s only 2" ignore it. If thatā€™s impossible, remove the cracker and broken end of fiberglass, and then seal up and replace the cracker as above.

Electrical tape: use the 3M brand. It lasts much longer, sometimes it seems like forever. I keep a roll in the tack trunk. Also if you are using zip-ties the black ones have better UV resistance and last longer outside that the white ones.
