Fixing Rubber/PVC Bell Boots

Okay, I’m trying to figure out if there’s an economical way to fix the velcro on the rubber/pvc bell boots. I have several “singles” that the velcro is ripped off. I have taken them at times to my shoe repair shop, but they charged $12.00, and for that price I can buy a new pair. These are not expensive bells. Mostly Centaur with velcro. But I hate to pitch them and fill up the landfills. I tried to repair them myself, but my sewing machine is not heavy duty, so broke the needles. I fixed on by hand, and, well, that was torture. Not sure I have any other options. Maybe my local tack shop that does repair? I wish I could maybe spend five bucks to fix them. Any ideas I might be missing? Or are they doomed for the dump?

Maybe you could try adhesive instead of stitching, if only to squeeze a bit more use from them. Something like Gorilla glue or ShoeGoo, perhaps?
You could glue the majority of the Velcro to the bell and then add a stitch by hand at the corners for added strength.

Yeah, I could try that. Thanks!

Thanks for the idea! I’ll be doing this, too, OP, so appreciate you posting!

^^^ Glad to be doing my part to help!

A sewing awl could work. Many YouTube videos are available, so you can get an idea of the process. Using it is a bit tedious but goes quickly if you can find the holes in the bell boots from the old Velcro stitching.

Awesome idea. Thanks! I will do some research. I do have an old awl somewhere.

When I was so broke I could not afford new ones, I used to fix mine with an awl using dental floss for thread. Dental floss is tough! You can also use nylon fishing line, which comes in various strengths.

Maybe punch holes and hammer in a few small rivets. One of my horses tried to eat a brand new pair of Cloud boots – ripped the velcro off + some of the material past the seam. Rivets worked.

Thanks, all! I appreciate your responses.
