Are these okay for the hunter-ring? Fox hunting?
What do you ladies think of men in them? Are they the height of fashion, or just dorky?

Not my bag, but I’ve been out of the circuit for a while now. I haven’t encountered any of these up here, but I’m not sure about your part of the country??:eek:
I think you’d be laughed at if you wore those around here. Especially in Middleburg. I’ve certainly never seen anyone wearing anything like those in the fox hunting photo spreads. Those flares look like they would function as parasails if you ever got up to a decent speed.

Can someone actually ride in those things? They look like a costume from a Mel Brooks movie.

Yes. But times and styles have changed. Image is everything in today’s horse world. You can get away with whatever you want if you’re at the top but if you’re not, you best fall in line or people will go out of their way to keep you out of the line.
Sorry to say but I have to disagree here somewhat - there are a couple of fellows who hunt w/ or used to hunt w/ Howard County (MD) and would sport vintage attire and I’m telling you they always look(ed) fabulous - rather dashing except I don’t think their breeches flared out quite that much as in the catalog. I will say I do prefer looser/baggier fit on men.
I think they are cool!

If you’re talking about the VA Breech or the Full Cut Breech I think they are just fine. But, then, I’m not a female so my opinion may be a bit skewed.

I am not a hunt person, so take my opinion as a complete outsider…
That is a beautiful catalog, and I say if you want to wear the baggy breeches, then do. But, as with any fashion risk, the key is to look good doing it and not make a spectacle of yourself by also committing some other heinous breech of etiquette while wearing the fashion risk. So if you are really into this, then dress yourself to the nines in the entire retro outfit. If you do it correctly and tastefully you may start a trend.
Wait a minute, I see a lot of women who’s britches look like that when they’re wearing their full seats (hmmmm, I think they named those correctly…):eek:

I’ve seen men wearing these out hunting.
They look very handsome.
I found a pair of canary Tally Ho’s and am thrilled - they have a slight flare.
Many of us, especially those over a certain age, have a butt and thighs that look like two pigs fighting under a blanket.
A elegant cut to a riding breech works wonders - as does a good tailoring job to a hacking jacket or Melton.
Everyone looks smashing out hunting, especially the men. 
I agree Guilherme - gotta have those nice boots to complete the look. I know a place you can get those custom for a lot less.
Breeches were flared until the invention of stretch fabrics. Once breeches were able to stretch, there was no more need for the extra room provided by the flares. So flared breeches now would be a somewhat silly fashion trend.
It seems like they’d rub, but I guess some guys would feel uncomfortable in spandex pants!

Even tho I’m 59, I’m still in pretty good shape and think I can pull off looking fashionable.

if you are in VA - Northern area - you might also try the Old Habit -it is in the Plains VA, several men that I know that fox hunt get their some of their hunt clothes there. I know of the men that Gottagrey referred to - and they do rock out there in the hunt field - they have the full get-up though -sometimes wear Derbys and once at a show one of them wore paddock boots w/leggings.
A friend of mine in Ireland had some slightly flared breeches - not quite as rounded flare in the Horse Country Catalog (not the page I saw anyway) and he looked great in his breeches. Tally Ho brand used to have some flared breeches
