I’m on the hunt for a saddle for the Hunter ring for me and my horse. He’s a 6yo TB, but has shorter wide withers and the slope from withers to loin is pretty flat, he’s also built a little downhill, and because of this it’s been hard to find a saddle for him.
I also prefer a flatter seat, like the old school pancake saddle, without blocks or at least minimal blocks.
What brands have a flat seat for me and a flat tree for him? Open to anything.
You have a PM.
Do you have a conformation-type picture? You don’t se many truly downhill TBs, withers lower than croup.
Renaissance has a flat seat model with a flat tree that is great for flat backs.
I had a Childeric Model M that had a flat seat and fit flatter backed horses.
Lovatt and Ricketts is another brand to look at.
I have never had a horse that did not like my Tad Coffin. Flat and minimal with that great flex tree of his. Maybe one that wanted a wider gullet didn’t like it. out of many horses.
This is a good more minimalist saddle for a flatter backed TB. Unless he’s truly wide in the withers and needs a very wide gullet. But in my experience, this isn’t how I’d describe most TBs compared to some wide spined, modern WBs.
Ditto on the Tad Coffin.
