Flax and aloe Vera juice

How beneficial is flax and aloe Vera juice? I feed theses two things to my horse. I feed them bc told horses on only hay need more omega 3 and flax is good source. I feed aloe Vera juice for the, said to be good for digestion etc. I feed tc30 with some stuff added (magnesium vit e copper zinc whey) and he gets free choice grass hay. I wonder if the flax is really needed with the tc30 and aloe Vera juice. I’m all about saving money where money can be saved and less things added in.

I don’t think aloe is necessary especially if this is not a horse that has problems with ulcers.

TC30 is a lower fat feed, so the flax would up the fat in the diet and also provide omegas. If he is not getting fresh grass, I’d keep the flax.

Thank you. I’ll finish out the aloe being I have it. I’ll get more flax tmr then. I’m almost out. So how much flax would u recommend on a horse on no pasture? He doesn’t need it for fat aspect of it. So be the omega part. I only feed once a day so he gets 1.5 lbs of tc30 once a day. 1/2 cup? I have been feeding 1 cup of flax once a day.

I live in the desert and usually feed 1/2 cup 2x a day.

If you can find a source-- whole flax in a 50 pound bag is cheaper than the commercial ground flax. I pay $21 for 50 pounds and my 3 horses get 3/4ths cup daily .

I have definitely heard that tho I never seen that around me here! So I buy simply flax which is only a pail Idk how big but it’s like 28$ I think last only 2 weeks or so. I feed a cup a day which idk if that’s to much or not enough think 1 cup is 4 oz

If you can get TC products look for their stabilized ground flax bags.

Flax is a beneficial source of omega 3 for horses who don’t get enough fresh grass, or, potentially for horses with some allergy issues.

Real (ie beneficial) aloe isn’t cheap, so the gallon Fruit of the Earth from Walmart has little to no real aloe in it. REAL aloe has the potential to protect against ulcers.

Oh it says 99.8% aloe! Lol

I’ll see if the only feed store around that carries tc can get there flax to.

that doesn’t mean it’s the parts of the aloe that matter. You can use all kinds of aloe components and call it aloe. It’s also not a “drug” so they can label things however they want until they get caught.

Acemannan is the component of aloe that has the real health benefits, and several independent tests have found little to none in that brand. ConsumerLab has tested it, and several individuals have had it tested (don’t know where).

If it’s cheap aloe, you can be pretty sure there’s little to no acemannan in it

Oh well that’s good to know!! I have seen human aloe pills is that better aloe or still waste of money? I prolly don’t even need to feed aloe but I just did bc I thought fruit of earth was worth it and easy to just dump in!

You’d have to do your due diligence for any form of aloe. A general rule is - the “good stuff” isn’t cheap. If its cheap, save it for putting on your skin and feeling good

@JB

Is this a good source of aloe vera? The SmartPak pellets: https://www.smartpakequine.com/ps/smart-and-simple-aloe-vera-pellets-19637

Your guess is as good as mine

That said, this is the aloe they use

so if we take them at face value (I know!), then yes, it’s worth trying.
