The barn cat has taken up residence near the house which is okay since she is getting older. I want to make sure that fleas stay under control since she is now interacting with the dogs. Any suggestions for fleas? I have used Advantage previously but just wanted to check new option that other people had success with.
My cats are indoor/outdoor, and I use regular old Frontline. I’ve heard it’s not great for fleas but I’ve never had a problem with it and I’ve been using it for years. It also kills ticks, which is important for me because I live in an area where cytauxzoonosis is endemic.
My vet uses Revolution Plus on my barn cats. It has the added advantage of being a wormer, too. It’s pricey, but good.
This ^ is the only product that works on my barn cats.
Not trying to derail the thread, but I’ve always wondered why it’s a good idea to worm cats every month. Wouldn’t frequent deworming contribute to worms developing resistance, just as frequently deworming horses leads to resistance?
Well, they usually only get the Plus once a year. Then I treat with plain Revolution as needed.
I use Revolution Plus too. I am not sure it worms the cat if it already has roundworms but keeps the cat from being re-infected with internal parasites. I will defer to the vets on this board though on that.
I lost my barncat in 2015, before Revolution Plus came out.
But I used Revolution on her every 3 months from Spring through Fall.
Never had a flea on her.
My vet also suggests Revolution for indoor / outdoor cats. It helps with internal parasites and also ear mites.
This is what I use too.
