Who has used one? What for? Did you use drugs or saline (or something else)? How well did it work for your horse’s issues?
Any and all info appreciated! TIA

I bought one in the spring for my gelding with allergies. If steaming hay wasn’t a logistical nightmare at the barn that he’s boarded at I would have spent my money there instead.
We had intradermal allergy testing done last year and I know that he was likely reacting to mold and dust from the hay.
I used saline and dexamethasone in the flexineb. The dex was definitely doing it’s job via the inhaled route. I tried unsuccessfully to wean him off a couple times which resulted in flare ups. It was a good month that he needed it before the coughing and mucous went away.
Unfortunately our barn isn’t heated and we live in Canada, which means the nebulizer isn’t useful to me for about six months of the year. I hadn’t really thought of this until after I bought it and read the user manual. The nebulized droplets will just touch the cold plastic and form larger droplets that can’t be inhaled.
I bought one this year. My Red has kind of had a habitual runny nose his whole entire life. Plus we had been a horrible drought for the past two years. So I did not have any issues like asmtha or allergies or anything in particular, but just hopefully wanted to improve respiratory function for him in general.
I’ve also used it on my horse Lilly.
They both had the “winter coughs” after being on a round bale over the winter. Two treatments with the Flexineb got rid of it, I was surprised. My 3rd horse that I did not treat with the Flexineb took another good month before his little cough went away, so that’s my “proof” that it seemed to be the Flexineb that got rid of it.
My vet gave me albuterol so that is what I have been using, although I just used the last of it this week so I’ll just be doing plain saline going forward.
Initially, I tried to treat every day or every other day for that first week or two. Since then, I’ve been treating maybe once a week, as we have been getting lots of rain so dust is minimal. I’ll be using it more this fall, particularly in September, because I go to some larger barrel races that are often quite dusty for the stalling situations.
So I have liked it, for clearing up the little coughs and things like that. I live in North Dakota so like @GoodTimes I can’t really use it in the winter when it’s sub-freezing out either.
I am in Canada too, but our grooming area doesn’t freeze … and hell, she’d stick her damn fool head into the heated bathroom if I asked. Wouldn’t need an occupied sign with her butt sticking out into the hallway! LoL
I think the user manual says that it should be warmer than +5C in order to nebulize effectively. I found that between 5-10C I was still ending up with a lot of liquid in the chamber.
My first nebulizer cup ended up damaged after about 50 uses. I was using it every day for about six weeks. Washed it after each use, never dropped the cup.
I’ve only used it a handful of times since early June. I imagine the allergies may come back in the fall with wet weather and riding in the indoor. I’ll likely get lots of use out of it in Sept/Oct. Heading to WEC Ohio for a few weeks in December so I’ll take it there since the barns are heated.
