I was watching the QH races last night on HRTV and they announced a few horses as wearing a flip halter or clip halter. I did a Google search for it and found nothing.
Any ideas?

It is called a flipping halter. Used to prevent horses from flipping in the gate.
There’s 2 types of flipping halters—One is basically a halter made of strong nylon and just has a ring on top of the noseband. Attaches the ring to the front of the gates. The other is like a nylon noseband with a 2 pieces of nylon and a heavy duty rubber band attached to a ring beneath the jaw, which is tied to the front of the gate but lower. Thoroughbreds in New Mexico (at least) also sometimes wear them but not as much.
Thanks Banshee. So, I guess it breaks away when the gate opens or how does it work? Any idea of where I can find a picture of one as I’m not quite getting it?
Tx. so much.
There is some info on the 101 thread and googling “flipping halter” brings up quite a bit including pictures.
Will do. Thanks. I had put it into the search in this forum originally but using “flip halter” as that is what I heard on the show. (I try not to throw questions out there if the information is up already.) It showed no results. But now that I know the real term, I will do what you said.
