Fly boot recommendations

Planning for fly season. I have a set of Shoo Fly boots that lasted for two years, but it’s time for replacements and before I order another set of Shoo Fly boots does anyone have an opinion on these other options:

Majyk Equipe Fly-Bye Boots - StateLineTack.com

Dura-Tech® Mesh FreeForm Fly Boots - Set of 4 | Schneiders Saddlery (sstack.com)

And regular Shoo Fly

Shoo Fly Leggins Fly Boots - StateLineTack.com

Horse is a 16 yr old, 15.1H OTTB that is generally easy on her clothes, out with other teenaged mares that generally leave stuff alone.

I like the Shoo Fly leggings best, but I got a set of these from Chick’s and they were quite comparable and cheaper.

They did sell out of them last year, so if you decide you want a pair (especially if you have a preferred color), I wouldn’t wait too long.

I have no experience with the Majyk Equipes, but the reviews on the Schneider’s don’t look good.

There was a grumpfest about Shoo Flys a few months ago; consensus was that they do not seem to have the same longevity they used to.

Shoo fly leggings, do they seem more poorly made this year?

I’ve had good experiences with Stomp Stoppers. They have been more durable than the Shoo Fly boots I replaced.

My experience (agree with the above linked thread) is that something changed with Shoo Fly boots. The first year I bought them they were fabulous - very durable and stayed stiff and upright. When I replaced them they were not the same. The bottom frayed and the plastic stiffeners popped out of multiple boots. I had to replace several over the summer.

I’ve had the Stomp Stoppers for three summers now and am happy with them. Take a close look at the sizing chart - they do run on the smaller side. They will make custom sizes if you need them.

My crew wears theirs 24/7 in the summer. I do replace them at the end of the season, but would expect you’d be able to get multiple years if you only have them on for part of the day.

I saw that and it’s part of the reason for the question. I was also just wondering if something better was out there.

I’ll look into these some more. Mine will also wear them almost 24/7 so I need some durability, fortunately she doesn’t try to destroy things and neither do her pasture mates.

Count me among those sorely disappointed by shoofly last year. The pairs I had previously could have gone multiple seasons, even on 24/7 turnout with continuous use.

I struggled to get 4-6 WEEKS per pair last summer. Went through 2 sets May-Sept on dry, overnight turnout only. The second set barely survived to the end of fly season.

I bought a couple pairs of the Magic Equipes on clearance this winter. Not sure how they will hold up, but they seem well made.

My horses live in the Shoofly boots for like 6 months. I have never gotten more than a year out of them, but my horses are out 24/7.

Glad there are getting to be a few other options out there in that style. All the other styles end up rubbing.

I am another one who won’t be buying any more Shoo Fly boots. My first set of Shoo Fly boots lasted through one summer and part of the next. The next set didn’t make it through one summer. And the last sets I bought didn’t make it six weeks before the plastic stays were coming through. It’s a real shame, though, because they work great, seemed comfortable, and didn’t cause any rubs.

I have the Stomp Stoppers and they seem nice.

I did have some issues with communication and the boots not shipping out for more than a month after I was told they were ready but maybe they have the communication issues improved now? The product itself has been fine.

My donkey has a custom set of Stomp Stoppers that are the bees knees. Worth every penny. I will buy them again :100:, I just haven’t needed to because they have lasted so well.

I loved the donkey’s boots so much I bought sets for the horses. I do not like them on the horses. The horses have gone back to Shoo Fly Leggins.

So… mixed bag of results from me.
