Fly leg wraps - which ones work best?

Horse has access to large pasture and is fond of gnawing off leg bandages. She has a sore on her leg from being in tall wet grass which I am trying to keep bandaged. I don’t have tons of flies in her stall but it might help keep the other bandage on if flies were not able to get on that lower leg. She is destructive so she may gnaw these up. Hopefully not.

I have used these decades ago but not recently. Which ones stay on the best???

1,000% the Shoo Fly Leggins. A bit more expensive than some of the others but they are AMAZING. This is my first year using them and I’ll never go back to a “traditional” wrap again.

My horse also hated the traditional style fly boots and was always tearing them off. He is much better with the ShooFly leggins as well. A couple of times a week he will get one off, but hasn’t destroyed it, so it is easy to just pop it back on.

I don’t think they are more expensive. Unlike a lot of fly boots that only come 2/set, the leggins come in a full set of 4.

Shoo fly. Hands down. I have them on a very destructive yearling currently and while they look a hot mess now, because all he does is chew on himself, they stay on and have protected his legs from his teeth. We did have to add a little bit of velcro because I couldn’t find the correct size at the tack store I went to. Every now and then one slips off, but not from him unvelcroing them, but I think when he lays down and is gnawing on his legs he slips on of them over his hoof if it isn’t connected all the way over to the velcro we added.

There is nothing more disheartening than putting on a brand new pair of fly boots and seeing your horse destroy them in minutes. The velcro never comes unfastened; the tabs just get ripped off.

I gave up on my horse that did that, but I’ve heard that duct tape around the boot works.

None of my herd rips off their ShooFly Leggins, not even the destructive donkeys who rip off everything else!

ShooFly followed by Kensington ones with fleece edges; I find all fly boots to be a PITA–easier to used Wipe in the green can applied with a micro fiber car wash mitt from the Dollar Store. It’s oil based, so stays effective all day.

Kensington brand. Takes no time at all to put on. My mare wears them 24/7. I redo them every am and pm and put on clean ones if needed (i have multiple sets).

She is so much happier with them on - no stomping whatsoever.

Bug spray is useless and gets expensive.

Shoo Fly…they are a life saver…or “hoof saver”.

I don’t have experience with the shoofly ones mentioned but I use Kensington on my horse and mini donkey, they wear them 24/7 (they have free access to barn/paddock 24/7) without issue. But neither are destructive with regard to gly boots, so not sure how they would do with a horse who is.
