Fly mask review-Kensington Catch Mask

My horse lets his neighbors take his fly mask off. It either gets ripped off in one piece, or is torn apart slowly piece by piece. He has been wearing the Kensington Catch Mask for a month now, and it has stayed on. I wanted to let you know in case you have the same problem. Also, it’s on sale:

The only drawback is that I bought this for an average sized quarter horse and I had to get the large.

I love mine! they do run small, but my mare has to wear a mask 24/7 and this one lasred 3 years and never comes off

Interesting. Can anyone who uses it comment on whether the version with ears is still harder to remove than others? I go out to remove fly masks before bed currently because otherwise I have to walk around and find them in the morning, and I’d love to eliminate that part of the routine!

Unfortunately my one guy definitely needs a warmblood-sized one, so if they run small it might not work anyway.

I was amazed when I first bought mine that it stayed on so well. But that only lasted a few days before his stablemate figured it out. I will say that the one I bought for the main “instigator” stays on about 90% of the time. Either the less committed horse figures it’s not worth the bother, or my other horse has decided that his second mission in life (the first being getting his stablemate’s fly mask off), is preventing the other horse from getting his off. Silly geldings!

I’ve been using these fly masks for my Appaloosa gelding. My other gelding hates to see a fly mask on the Appy - apparently it offends him. With the Kensington (which comes in colors to match your horse) the fly mask makes it through the day about 98% of the time. Any other fly mask had pretty much a 100% failure rate. I literally couldn’t even get back to the house before Mr. Smarty Pants had removed his friend’s headwear.

I can’t help you on the ear thing. Mr. Smarty Pants really, really hates fly masks with ears, so I just can’t use them.
