Fly sheet recommendations needed and some questions

Needing to replace an old white fine mesh mesh fly sheet. Tags are missing, not sure of the brand. Has an attached neck and belly cover. Are there any fly sheets that don’t rub shoulders too much? Do those with attached necks contribute to shoulder rubs over those with detachable necks?

Current fly sheet has a built in tail cover. The binding where the body of the fly sheet meets the tail cover is rubbing the top of the tail when the horse puts it’s head down to graze. Horse is not itching tail on anything. I cut the tail cover into hanging strips, thinking it would release the pressure, but it didn’t help. Do any fly sheets have cut out tail area, like a Big D blanket does, and has a butt strap instead of tail cover?

I’ve been very pleased with the Smartpak ultimate fly sheet that I bought this year for my horse. It’s very lightweight and seems to keep her cooler than her previous Rambo flysheet did. (The Smartpak one is UV protective). It has an attached (via buckles) neck, no belly cover. FWIW my horse is a quite solidly built Irish Draught mare, 16.3, wearing a size 81 sheet.

From your description it sounds as though the previous flysheet was a tad too small for your horse. That would contribute both to shoulder rubs and to pressure on the tail.

Thanks. It’ll look at Smartpak. This horse is 16.1 and wears 81-82. Big neck and shoulders. The sheet is actually a tad too big. It’s generously cut. That’s why the seam down the spine and the piping around the edge is hanging too low on the butt and tail. This fly sheet doesn’t rub the shoulders much at all. I think it might be a one of the old Weatherbeata white mesh fly sheets, but doesn’t look like any current models. Does look similar in the butt cover, tho. Horse has high tail carriage in general. Flags tail a lot when running around. That’s how tail is getting rubbed by the seam. Seams hang low like this: https://cdn.equestriancollections.co…?h=1000&w=1000

I don’t see a Smart Pak Ultimate. Could it be the Deluxe instead? I’ve wondered about chest closures like that. https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/smartpak-deluxe-fly-sheet-w-nofly-zone--11107 The top closure looks like it could put resistance on the shoulders and rub. Does your sheet have these closures and does your mare have wide shoulders or narrow?

I have this one in size 81 for my 16.2h long/lean tb mare. It seems to fit well when I first put it on her but after a while it shifts toward her butt and is really tight on her chest, neck, and shoulders. And somehow it rubs her beautiful tail and creates a rats nest. She probably needs a smaller one. Her other blankets are 78 and they seem too small. The material is pretty nice and light weight though!

It fits super and stays put! No rubs and does not make him hot here in the FL heat. Highly recommend, love schneiders! Only thing is is his blankets and sheets have always been an 86 but this was too big so went to an 84 and was perfect.
