title says it all…want to get a fly sheet for my mare, would like recommendations…
I prefer the Rambo Protectors. They hold up and they fit my horses well.
I have had good luck with the Super Fly sheet from Centaur. My mare is on 24/7 turnout with 4 other geldings (3 of which get into mischief like boys do). She does sometimes get picked on by them (most of the time she is asking for it) but they haven’t done any damage to the fly sheet which is on its second season.
I’ve had great luck this year with the Saratoga flysheet. Very durable and stays in place nicely, even with 24 hour turnout.
Rambo Protector all the way. My horse is on his second season of 24/7 wear. Yesterday I put it back on him after I rinsed him off, and he got down and rolled. It was very cock-eyed when he got up. I tried to get ahold of him to straighten it up, but he took off across the pasture. As he cantered away, I watched it slide itself right back into place. Wonderful!
I love the Rambo Protector and have tried others due to the expense of the former. I always go back to the Rambo. My second favorite is the Kensington.
I did purchase a fly sheet last week because it was on sale and is for a horse that will likely be sold by then end of the summer. It came from Schneiders and I am impressed thus far. However, as is the case with all horse items, time will tell.
Here is the Schneider’s sheet: http://www.sstack.com/product/Dura-Mesh-Flyshield-Fly-Sheet--Blue-Plaid/
I had a Rambo and hated it, too big, always sliding sideways.I love Kensington, they have multiple styles now too.
Baker. Does what the pricey ones do just as well, lasts forever, $99.00.
I would like to try the Rambo, but $$$.
My choice instead has been the weatherbeeta airflow (I think it’s called?) super lightweight mesh and has a neck cover. Works great on my thin skinned TBs.
I too like the Kensingtons. Can’t beat their warranty either.
I had a Horseware Mio flysheet last year that I had a lot of success with until my horse went out with a herd of demons at the end of the summer. I got another one this year and it was AWFUL. Had 2 huge holes in it within 2-3 weeks. I of course thought maybe my guy was too rough on it so I bought another one. Within 5-7 days ALL of the belly straps were starting to rip off in the exact same spots… clearly it is a manufacturing problem. I called Smartpak and have since replaced it with the Weatherbetta Air Flow. He’s only had it on since last night but the quality seems better.
I have this one from Schneiders:

Got a regular one last year which held up very well, didn’t shift, even without the leg straps. But upgraded to the belly band version this year, so she has two.
She’s not hard on clothes. I really like the adjustable neck feature.
I just reviewed the one I bought on my blog. My mare doesn’t know how she went through life without one but I am unimpressed with the durability of the softer mesh styles. It was cheap though.
My gelding is out 24/7 and I purchased the new Weatherbeeta Ripstop this past Spring http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=31085 and have been very happy the fit and also with the way it is holding up. Always happy to get multiple seasons out of a fly sheet
Does anyone have thoughts on Shires fly sheets? I have a coupon for them and need a fly sheet.
