Hi All! I searched the forum and couldn’t find an answer, so just wanted to post very quickly - I’m flying down to Florida next week for the day to try some horses, and I won’t be checking bags to save time. Will I be able to get through security with my spurs and crop if I take them out and put them in a bin? No scary rowels, just little Tom Thumbs.
I was able to fly with spurs in bag, but I had a whip confiscated in Portugal :lol:
If I really liked my spurs and crop, I’d probably leave them at home and beg to borrow some when you get there. Even if they’re technically okay to fly with in a carry-on, you never know when you’ll hit an overzealous security person who is determined to keep the world safe, one crop at a time.
Just throw them in your carry on. I have never had any issues.
The only time anybody noticed they commented that I must have been riding. But, I agree, why not borrow those? In the past I only took boots and helmet and borrowed the rest.
:lol::lol::lol:
You can borrow these onsite. Maybe text ahead?
You can always just give the sly wink to the TSA agent…
.
Ditto, particularly because I also had a helmet and saddle with me too! The saddle is what freaked them out because they couldn’t recognize it on the screen unless I told them ahead of time what I was sending through. A crop is easily borrowed though so if you are tight on space you could skip that.
I’ve never had a problem flying with them. I’ve regularly flown with my helmet, gloves, tall boots, Spurs, crop, and clothes all smushed into a carry on. If they’re sentimental then maybe plan on buying or borrowing when you get there just in case.
I’ve flown with spurs in my carry on with no problems! I’ve also taken good picks through in my purse haha. Never tried a crop but they always swab my saddle.
Or wrap them up in a black, lacy corset?
The TSA doesn’t give a sh*t right now since they aren’t getting paid, so you should be fine.
I just flew with spurs in my carry on the other day, and they went through with no problem. The security guy did think a barrette in my hair stuff looked suspicious, and ran it through the x-ray machine three times. Whatever.
But if I had been working for free for a month, I might be a bit testy as well.
I fly with my stick and spurs when I’m going to ride. I like my stuff. Never any issues.
I’ve flown with these mostly without issue. Had one time where the TSA guy almost didn’t let me through with my spurs, claiming they were a “tool” and weren’t allowed. I was running late and about ready to just give them up when another TSA agent jumped in and let me take them. They were POWs if I recall. I would be prepared for the possibility, so if it’s your favorite set I would leave them at home, but otherwise I’d take the risk.
I flew with my saddle a couple times and that got some questions from TSA. Once when I explained what it was, they got excited and were calling out “hey guys, this lady is a jockey.” Which I just let them think since I was already holding the line up but I’m a little tall to be a jockey :lol: Once on the plane, the flight attendant asked if it was a back brace.
I got some grief trying to carry on a dressage whip on a domestic flight. Agent took it away, and I saw several agents pondering it together off to the side. Eventually one of them pretended to whip another one in a suggestive way, they all cracked up, and gave me back the whip… :rolleyes:
