Flysheet that covers under the chest and belly?

My girl is under attack by noseeums. I haven’t had any experience with them before now. She’s allergic. She gets fluid filled bumps. Ugh. I just figured out what it is, it just started. She gets a lot of bumps between her front legs. Is there anything that I can cover that with? She get some on her belly, but right now it’s between her front legs and a little behind them. Also on her legs above her hocks on the muscley part.

Any ideas?? Apparently according to the locals, nothing gets rid of them.

If you find one let me know. I’m in MD and 1/2 my herd is being driven BONKERS by the damned things. Big welts on their chests that their Rambo Flysheets don’t cover, even with the neck.

I use this on Draco, who has sweet itch. http://www.sstack.com/horse-blankets-and-sheets_fly-sheets-sun-protection_mosquito-mesh-fly-sheets/mosquito-mesh-bellyband-fly-sheet/ I also use a very thick coating of Swat on his chest, between his legs, down his midline, on his sheath and on the inside of his legs.

I also feed flax and spirulina and get him accupunctured for allergies.

Good luck!

That is a good Fly sheet…

Flysheets, fly spray, Swat, etc. as others have mentioned…and the only thing that keeps my horses sane is night turnout. If that’s possible, try it. My horses are in during the day, standing in front of fans and love going out at night. I dress them in their sheets, fly masks w/ears, spray them down and turn out when it is still a bit light out and the gnats have settled down. Horses come in about 8:30 - 9 am.

This is a very weird year - gnats are terrible, and have been all month (I’m in the Midwest).

I did this until I read an article on gnats and related bugs several years ago. Seems prime bug feeding time is, here in SC apx 4 - 9PM and 5-9AM. Even with full fly sheets and masks both horses were getting bit along their chest and mid-lines. Now both are out during the day in at night. Both have fewer bug bites/reactions based on this schedule.
Caution - if you do go to daytime turnout, be mindful of heat and humidity. Mine love getting an afternoon shower before heading back into the stalls and fans.

I don’t use these, but saw them in one of their flyers… http://www.bigdweb.com/mobile/FLY-SHEET-BELLY-GUARD/productinfo/FSBG/

Wow, that’s different! I’m pretty sure if I put that on one of my horses though, it would be killed and shredded in .2 seconds

Cashel belly guard

I just bought the cashel belly guard linked above. It has velcro tab closures, which I thought wouldn’t work, but it has been staying on day and night. I do use it under a Weatherbeeta belly band sheet, and i think the belly band helps keep it on even when rolling or lying down. It does shift position sometimes, so I keep an eye on it. It is really helping with the bugs.

A couple years ago (or so), I came to the Forum to ask about fly sheets with belly guards & was lead to the Bucas zebra stripe? Works brilliantly, but after a season, the white stripes turned gray & do not wash clean. My question is: Will the sheet be as effective? I have purchased another zebra striped sheet that DOES wash clean.

that is what we are doing… the horses are kept in their stalls under fans until after sun down and put up before sun rise.

It took them about one day to adjust to this new turnout schedule… have broken their feedings into three times a day… morning when put up, noon, then at about six pm… stalls ae cleaned each time, water buckets refilled might even groom one or two at noon feeding

But they are not being chewed apart and really like to have their fans
