foal movement??

Ok, I may be over-excited and wishing for things I may not be seeing lol!!!

Was watching my mares stomach this morning, she is over 6.5 months in foal… and I could have sworn I was seeing sporadic weird movements (not just her breathing in and out) near the back/side of her stomach???

Am I crazy??? Is it possible??? Im dying to see the foal move!

Totally possible!! Usually starts around 7 months’ gestation. I’d say you are seeing your foal.

One of my favorite parts about breeding! I also like to put my ear up to the belly and you can hear a gurgling noise (not the mares normal stomach noise), it’s the baby moving around. I once had a foal kick me in the side of the head through the stomach haha

I used to put my face to my mares belly and go “hheeelllooooo in there” and he’d kick back at me. It was so cute! When he was born I did the long hello to him and he whipped his head around and looked at me. I swear he recognized my voice. ha ha ha

cute!!! Thanks guys!!! I was SURE there was no way this was normal movement for where I was watching and it went on for awhile!

Isn’t it exciting?? My filly started moving at around a little at 5 1/2-6 months, I was over the moon (and dubious–because it was so early!), but she was VERY active in utero throughout the entire pregnancy. It’s one of those unique little thrills that only a breeder would truly understand or appreciate

Keep your hand on her belly if you see movement (some say that slapping the belly makes the foal move around, but I think that is for “later gestation”), and you will feel it; some say they move around more right after the mare is fed. I knew my mare only ovulated only from the left ovary, so was able to keep my eye on her left side to watch for any movement

Yaaa!!! It was only on the right side!!! I went and watched the left side lol and it didn’t move at all

Its been a rough couple weeks so this was a nice suprise this morning

Did the same thing! I was teased about it…until the foal was born and he would come to me every time I called him, from birth.
The funny part was the mare got sick of being kicked and would politely side step away from me and give me the LOOK.

They tell you to do that with human babies, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with horse babies!!!

Im totally going to start now LOL

My mare came into supper the other night and I swear her baby belly almost put my eye out. It really surprised me since Ive not seen foal movement that early on–but feel quite sure thats what it was. Haven’t seen any movement since then but expect to see some more as we approach her anticipated foaling date.

At some point the foal gets too big and can’t kick. I was worried when I didn’t get kicks for the last while but it is understandable since they grow so much in a short time period and run out of room.

That being said, I guess this is the right time for the baby to be the right size to move and kick lots!

It starts out with a pictures but 1 day the foal was moving so much I got a video (poor mare  ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FJF3n0TOMo

super coool!!! That is the exact area I was seeing movement, it just wasnt as hard as that poor mare got booted LOL

Gah! I’m not seeing anything in my mare yet…starting to worry there isn’t anything in there! She is almost exactly 7 months pregnant and this is my first time! Am I just being a nervous Nellie? I think she has started to gain weight, but it could just be wishfull thinking… How pregnant should she look at 7 months?

Love to feel the babies bouncing around in Momma’s belly. I usually start to feel for movement around 6 months or so.

Ok. So my paranorma got the best of me and I am obsessively staring at my mares belly now. I think I feel more activity on her right side, by the flank than I do on any of my other horses. I see and hear a small amount of “bubbling, or rippling” like indigestion? Is this the start of activity like kicking, or am I just seeing things that I want? I dont seem to see this activity on her left flank…now to check my records to see which side she ovulated on… Lol, can you tell I’m a newbie at this!

I saw little sporadic Kicking type movements on the right side. I’m guessing at this age they are still legs stretched out?

Ya, I can see bubble-ing (the best description I can muster) on one side more than the other. I just watched that linked video and we are not bouncing around in there like that!!
