Good luck! Do you have help or are you foaling her out by yourself?
I have my second COVID shot coming up as well, but I don’t have a mare foaling at any time so have no worries about being down from the side effects… Hope you have your back up ready and that you won’t need them.
I am on my own, but I have a friend/former student on standby in case I need help.
Good luck, @Trak_Eventer! She’s very pretty.
Arielle continues to creep along here, too, at day 342. Really just waiting on that milk pH to drop and/or her to wax at this point before I’m on full 24/7 alert.
Oh, she is lovely @Trak_Eventer! I can’t wait to see her little one! (No offense to the other mothers-to-be we are cheering for)
Thanks! Excited doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings! This is us back in our glory days. She is a pretty neat little horse!
No new baby pics?
She’s lovely !
Still waiting (not so) patiently here!
Arielle had a spa day today, which she seemed to appreciate. She is pretty much fully shed out now, her tail head couldn’t possibly get more relaxed, I swear her belly drops more every time I look at her, and one side of her udder is completely full, while the other just needs to finish filling out the very end of the teat. I can express milk with almost no effort now, and it is white and a bit thicker - about 2% milk consistency, maybe - but is not sweet yet and still has a very high pH. Her Ca hasn’t matched Saturday afternoon’s high reading (not sure what happened there!), but is consistently testing somewhere between 120 and 200 ppm.
So, we continue waiting.
I love seeing the foals. Poor mamas look like they’re ready to be done carrying those babies.
She’s so beautiful!
Mares seem to do everything in their own time, don’t they?! Surely Ariel can’t hold on too much longer.
My last two girls got their Caslicks opened on Monday. Bodacious Barb is 330 days today, Jazil’s Dream is 327. Both are making a little progress on their udders. Barb has gone slack in her topline, but I still think she’s a good 10 days out. She drove me crazy last year (maiden), testing pH 6.8 starting at day 327, waxed for NINE days starting on 333, and spun circles in her stall for two nights before finally giving up her colt on day 342. Her udder looks a bit slower than last year’s, but maybe she’s progressing “normally” this year. Jaz had one foal 5 years ago and I have no idea what to expect from her.
I moved the herd of mares and foals into a big grassy pasture yesterday, and it made for some pretty photos. Sheza’s Saketini colt is doing just super, he’s getting really thick and will be a big boy when grown. Little orphan Lee isn’t so little, either! He’s doing fantastic, though still keeps to himself more than I would like. Bella’s filly “Taco” started out so little and timid, but is now super friendly and easy in every way. Jaws (dark Khozan) is still obnoxious, his crooked knees are straighter but still make me avert my eyes.
Red Devil (Khozan) still acts electrocuted whenever you touch his body, and his “fight” instinct is high. Thankfully he’s great about grabbing the halter, because pushing his butt is a No Go. His dam, Tizlot, was bred to Gunnevera on 4/5. Booger (Commissioner) continues to be The Best Foal Ever, completely sweet, friendly, and “born broke,” he often leads in and out with no halter just a rope (or your arm) around his neck. His dam, Harlan Shuffle, is scheduled to go to Gunnevera on 4/16.
Entice and Ultimate Class went to Kentucky with their foals. Entice was pronounced in foal (yay!) to Enticed (MDO), and we should know in another week if Ultimate Class is pregnant. A few more mares & foals have taken up residence here, to get bred to FL stallions. One of them, Distorted Type, has a lovely Take Charge Indy colt…he started out a little shy but he also has a fabulous mind (thank you AP Indy).
Thankfully I’m not on foal watch yet, but it’s a full time job shuffling mares and foals to turnout, and holding for the vet nearly every day!
Bella and Taco Lee
Sigh.
Arielle is still at the point where she could foal any day now but may hold on indefinitely. I’m using a baby monitor to view her stall overnight, since there is no WiFi and minimal cell service at my barn. It’s been over three weeks since I’ve had over a full night’s (8 hours) sleep, even though I have no alarms set just yet, because the monitor is very sensitive and I’m a very light sleeper. Lately, she’s taken to flopping/throwing herself down rather than gently lowering herself down to sleep, which she generall does 2-4 times per night. That’s fun…
Here every morning waiting for the foal pic!
Me too!!
Any updates on Arielle??? How many days is she now?
Arielle is 347 days today. Still in a holding pattern and slowly driving me nuts! Her udder is starting to feel more like fluid than edema, but that and a slight increase in fullness have been the only real changes in the past 10-ish days.
I have a friend whose mare just foaled this week at 384 days, so I really shouldn’t complain too much. Lol. I’ve seen a lot of crazy pre-foaling patterns from mares, but this is the first one I’ve seen make lightning fast changes for three weeks and then do absolutely nothing the next two. Figures it would be mine!
Day 349 here for my EH Herzensdieb/Windfall foal! We are supposed to get SNOW here in the KC area tonight into tomorrow, so who wants to bet my mare will foal tonight… pH keeps yo-yo-ing between low and not quite ready, getting more miserable looking, some milk drops. She waxed up Thursday, so who knows!
Day 353, and Arielle’s milk test still says we’re a ways off (Ca 120-150 ppm, pH 8.4). But holy cow has her belly dropped!
She can’t hold on indefinitely, but she’s sure stretching this out. It’s hard to believe she had the last one at 339 days, but I know those dates are correct because I kept very close track when I was waiting on my custom foal.
