Foal Watch 2023

Heartbreaking. You were really looking forward to the foal and were clearly taking the best care of the mare that you could. I’m so sorry it turned out this way.

I’m so sorry for your loss, @QM2.

I’m so sorry to hear this… :cold_sweat:

Oh, so sorry, @QM2. My heart is with all you guys breeding this spring, it has been such a tough one already. :broken_heart: :broken_heart: :broken_heart:

Unfortunately I have to add to the bad news. Saxony’s foal was born dead this morning.

Oh, no. I’m so sorry, @LaurieB.

What a rough start to the foaling season our little group has had. I really hope things start turning around for everyone soon.

Wow. That’s awful. Hugs to you!
There does seem to be a rough start to foaling season; on FB I’m seeing posts from various corners of mares rejecting foals and other issues.

Feeling the depths of sorrow for everyone who endures this heartbreak. Hugs and no words can express.

I do not know how you breeders do it. Deepest condolences.

My sentiments exactly. So very hard to read the sad outcomes here.

A friend of mine in KY is surveying the storm damage - his barn roof crumbled up in his neighbor’s cow field - and he posts: ‘You know every mare in KY is going to foal tonight …’

That sounds about right!

I’m surprised a bunch didn’t go yesterday/last night around here. Nashville International Airport recorded a near-record low pressure during yesterday’s windstorm. The National Weather Service says we experienced the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane yesterday, just with less rain. I have a tree down on one fenceline (luckily in the pasture I’m resting for the winter/early spring), but otherwise I got off pretty easy. Others in middle TN weren’t as fortunate.

It seems like everyone on this thread could really use a pick-me-up, so here’s a photo of my 2022 filly, who has the most beautiful face (not that I’m at all biased!), even if the rest of her currently looks mangey as she is in full yak-ling shedding mode.
