Food bolting cat

I have two cats. Tux is 4, Edo is 10 months. They are buddies although Edo seems to love Tux more than Tux loves him.

Edo is a bolter. A real little oinker! He bolts his food and then harfs it up.

No health issues, no hairballs. I can watch him do it when I fill the bowl he starts eating as fast as he can then it hurts his little tummy :frowning:

Tux has never been piggy but does not like wet or canned food. He was hit by a car as a yearling and had his little face wired together, he had a hole in his little neck and was tube fed for a month then sloppy super wet food he had to pretty much suck up until his little jaws healed enough to gradually start feeding him chewable food. I think he is scarred for life on wet food, he hates it now.

They have food 24/7 in a big bowl. Edo has never gone hungry (I know the people who own the mama kitty).

Any ideas? Little turd will tear up a bowl then harf all over the carpet.

Spread it out on a baking pan instead. That way at least he can’t be gulping whole mouthfuls, he’ll have to take just a few pieces at a time.

Or you can feed him 1/4 cup every few hours or something. Because, like me, I know you have nothing to do with your life but cater to the needs of your weird cats.

I think a baking pan is a good idea. Tux won’t mind, he isn’t piggy and would be fine with ā€œgrazingā€ in a pan.

Poor Edo, he is such an odd little guy. He stunk as a snall kitten, pooped every 5 minutes! Then he started growth spurting, I’d get home from work and he looked like a Dachshund. Right now his head is too big for his body.

I came across the idea to use cups of varying heights on a baking pan so the cat has to work to get the food out. Slows them down and provides lots of mental stimulation at the same time. You’re supposed to start with shallow cups and then slowly change to all different sized ones. A cupcake pan would probably work well too.

Great!!! I can try that!
