For Fun: 5X Pedigree Analysis for Average TB Gelding

Putting this in here (off course) because I’m asking out of genuine interest, and not for any specific purpose other than avoiding tasks that I’ve been putting off all day.

Would love for the lineage loving experts to chime in on my gelding’s pedigree: Click Here for Link to Equiline 5X for Crafty Ike

Like I said, just for fun. He’s already mine so a horrific subset of mixings is not going to impact much on my end. His racing portfolio is… less than stellar (and if you met him in real life, you’d probably understand why; l-a-z-y)

I’ve seen some really incredible analyses done on here and I’ve been curious for a while. Appreciate anyone who adds anything to the conversation!

If I was looking for an eventer, this is the type of pedigree that would make me give the horse a good look.

I vaguely remember your horse’s sire, Icon Ike, running. I can’t tell you much except he was a turf sprinter.

I always loved Yes It’s True… he was just a good sire. An excellent racehorse in his own right, then just a really reliable sire. He crops up in quite a few upper level eventing horses.

Crafty Prospector… he sired such workhorses. I love seeing Crafty Prospector in a pedigree, and again, it’s one of those names that crops up in upper level eventers with above average frequency. Racing or sport, they are just horses with a lot of heart that tend to show up when you need them. They aren’t always the most refined looking, but boy can they get the job done.

This is the type of pedigree I’d want for one of my own horses.

Thank you so, so much for your response. Appreciate the kindness and thoroughness. I have a lot more research to do based on what you said about his grand-sires (I couldn’t find much on Icon Ike).

First order of business is finding a picture of Crafty Prospector though; the best description of Malcolm (Crafty Ike) is summarized as: “not the most refined but gets the job done.” Tons of heart, too.

Super interesting what you said about a decent pedigree for an eventer - that is the avenue we are going to embark on sometime later this year after my trainer works out some minor movement related kinks.

Ask and you shall receive!

One of my greatest regrets in life is turning down the chance to stand a stakes winning Crafty Prospector son when I was right out of college. I didn’t think he was “pretty” enough. When I said no, the owner gelded him. Ah, the idiocy of youth.

You are the GOAT.

Noooo way! In your defense though… hindsight is 20/20, but Crafty Prospector’s body form has some interesting attributes for sure. I can see how his offspring could look funky, quick

I see similarities in the build - Crafty Prospector looks like a big boned sporthorse (haven’t done enough digging on the others yet to see if those similarities).

Horses and genetics are so interesting
