for the fuller filly crowd

firsy off please be nice, I have feeling and am not looking for redicule like get lipo or go on a liquid diet . well I had my first western horse show and I placed in each class. I was very happy with that the only question I have is I was some how under the delusion that the clothes I purchased would make me look like the people modeling them. I will tell you That im not the blingy type person that likes to draw attention to myself. but wanted to know what do the fuller fillie women do to detrach from the uni-boob look and the (working on getting rid of) fuller waist line that in my opinion I looked like a easter wrapped marshmellow, needless to say i personal was horrified .My friends were nice abt this but I would like to break this look up so it looks more uniform . I did wear a body suit thing but it still did not help. Thanks

All you can do is buy show clothes that fit you well and pay extra attention to being neat, crisp, and clean. Don’t buy too large shirts in an effort to “hide” your weight, they just look sloppy. A thinner belt is probably better than a wider belt, within the range of what is “in” in the show ring this season. Wear a good, supportive sports bra that keeps the girls from bouncing around.

To use the old cliche, you’ve got to own it. You can’t hide it.

And think of me out there showing jumpers in my tight breeches and tucked in polo shirt. I really, really, can’t hide it.

a long vest can cover many ills !

If you are not too large, you are better off without the uni-boob look and actually getting a bra that does not mush your breast into your stomach, chest and armpits. If you have a figure, try to use it to help you look more tailored. Herroom.com has some great bras for fuller figures. You can also have a shirt custom made or an off-the-rack shirt tailored to your shape.

I agree with NoSuchPerson, just be willing to own the look and have fun!

As a “fluffy” rider who is working on losing weight, my philosophy is “If you can’t hide it, paint it red.”

I don’t know what level you’re showing at, but if you’re wearing something besides a tucked in button down, belt and scarf, there are several ways to help smooth the look. If you can wear a jacket or vest that drops over your waistband, that can help keep the middle from being broken up and emphasized. There are also some tops with color/bling/accent on the shoulders and top of the chest, that blend down to black/dark color at the waist and hem that will help blend into your dark pants/chaps and make that line look longer. Make sure everything fits-- no blousing out on the shirts, no vests or jackets too short for your torso, no sleeves too short.

For the uniboob, I can’t really help, since I’m a big believer in the Enell bras and would rather have no bounce than defined boobs.

It’s also a good idea to put on your show clothes, mount up, and have someone stand back and take a picture when there is still time before the show to have things tailored, dyed or replaced. Also, remember most judges will be standing 20 to 50 feet away when judging a rail class, so you want to make sure the whole picture and general color scheme and flow is pleasing.

Nice job getting out there, showing up, and placing in your classes!

Wear a really well fitted bra in the proper size. If you’ve never been measured professionally, get it done. It’s unreal how many women of all sizes are in the wrong bra size completely. The proper fit & size can make such a tremendous difference! Don’t wear low rise or even mid-rise jeans, try to find jeans that fit at the belly button or slightly above, this will help smooth your tummy area a bit more, do wear a shirt that fits and is not too big, nor pulling at the bust, etc. The new tunic tops that don’t have to be tucked in are lovely, fit nicely in the right size, and you can get them with black panels on the sides, which allow an optical trick helping you appear slimmer than you are.

I prefer the mushed, no bounce effect of uniboob, but that’s me.

My approach is more philosophical than actual. IMHO, I think my ‘look’ varies a lot. Fat days, skinny days, pretty days, ugly days, etc. In reality, I look about the same everyday to the people around me. No matter what I put on, I can’t hide the fact that I’m fat.

So, yes! Paint it red. Buy what you like, the colors you like; buy what is comfortable to wear. You really won’t look much different to the world than the way they already see you. It’s only YOU who thinks there’s a big difference.

I hope that all came out right…it’s not meant to be a downer. It’s meant to say: don’t be ashamed or embarrassed of who you are; embrace the fun of getting all gussied up and having a good time with your horse!

Thank you for all your advice and support . I am showing at a local show and just trying to get back into showing , lessons ect. all good motivating stuff. I love the painted red comment that was awesome, I wil have to remember it . I guess I will take all your advice and start to look around for shirts and vests and get measured . Will let you know how it works out next show is May 17th . so I have time to work on it ,
