For the Welsh Cob and Pony folks

1/4 Welsh or 1/4 Connemara provided the 1/2 Breed is registered as a 1/2 Breed.

That’s my interpretation :)
That is correct. We registered our Blue Who filly last year as Partbred Welsh. Blue Who is mostly Welsh himself, but he is not registered. We bred him to our registered Half Welsh/half TB mare, Sporting Life, and got a lovely filly. Although the filly is mostly Welsh by bloodlines, the only registered parent is the Half Welsh dam…so it’s nice to have a set of papers for her.

In order to be eligible for Half Welsh papers with the WPCSA, one parent must be registered purebred (either Section A, B, C or D). But for the Partbred papers, at least one parent must be registered Half Welsh.

Re-opening this thread because the American Connemara Society is looking to open a partbred registry too.
I would certainly like to see this happen. I have foals from halfbred mares that are going to the warmblood sportpony registries as they cannot be registered with ACPS which I think is unfortunate.

Go to page 4 in the rule book http://www.welshpony.org/welshcms/uploads/RULEBOOK2.pdf
Thank you, that’s exactly what I was looking for!

we do–like the Half Welsh (you are half Connemara). Maybe I misunderstood but this is talking about registering the offspring of Half Breds which we don’t.
We’re currently looking into this. Nothing is in effect yet, but I’m heading a committee that will make a presentation to the board in January. I thought it was a brilliant idea when the Welsh Society did it. What better way to get more ponies and more people involved, especially when our breed is so incredibly small in this country.

Can you send me a pm? I’d like to correspond with you via email because one of the next things I’ll be looking for is a basis of how many people/ponies this could potentially affect.

I have two 1/4-breds on the ground and one on the way. Some good friends of mine have around six or seven 1/4-bred youngsters.

Precisely what I’d like to see us achieve. I for one, cross my half-bred mares out in order to retain their daughters to breed back in to Connemara stallions. I’d really like to have papers on my 1/4-breds!

Does anybody know… for Partbreds and Half Welsh, is the stallion service report only required if the sire is the Welsh parent?

The stallion service report is only required if the sire is registered with WPCSA. If the mare is the only registered parent with WPCSA (purebred or half-bred) you will need to submit her hair sample unless already on file (in one of the registries envelopes/kits) as well as her picture.

Thank you… that is what I thought… but it in one place it states Stallion form MUST be submitted and then another spot on the same page it says the same as what you said. I don’t want to not turn in something and then not be able to register foals and their work hours correlate with my work hours and I never got a reply back on an e-mail that I sent.

The WPCSA couldn’t give a rat’s patootie what or who the parent is that is not Welsh. Handling the sire report of a stallion not in their registry is just more paper and more work for them. Their goal is to make sure that the offspring being registered is truly ‘of the blood’ of whatever percent it is claimed to be. In the situation you describe, this is why you will not need a stallion report if the stallion is not Welsh or at least is not registered with WPCSA and will only need to provide the information on the mare and of course the foal/offspring.

As a side note I am probably one of the biggest critics of WPCSA and am considered down right rude on many of an occasion when discussing their merits; but, to be very clear, the people who work in their office are extremely helpful. I have never had a problem getting a response though I do know that during the holidays they aren’t always available and then get behind due to the backlog. If you haven’t received an email response I would simply call. I’m sure they would be very happy to and can easily assist you in completing all the paperwork properly and sending in what is needed.
