For the Welsh Cob and Pony folks

stunning wonderful news for us,just found out last night…tell the others where you can:

The half-Welsh registry be opened to their part-bred offspring. In order to qualify, a partbred must have one WPCSA registered half-Welsh parent and will be identified with a “P” prefix on their number. The fee will be based on age of animal at the time of registration. A maximum fee of $125 will be given from 1/1/2012 through 8/31/2102. After that time, the regular registration fees will apply. No new awards or classes will be created at this time. However, all Half-Welsh classes and awards will be renamed to Half-Welsh/Partbred.

YAY!!! (darn there is no dancing icon)

See, I think things like that are forward and progressive thinking! Good going!

How fantastic for you guys!

I think there should be more half breed registries like with the Friesians too

Great move! Our half bred Connemaras are such fabulous horses- allowing them to be registered so we can follow their careers is a HUGE positive. This is especially true for native pony breeds IMHO because “what we got” is so desired in performance horses- it’s nice to keep track of “where” it comes from.

We already had a half bred registry, so this goes beyond that – and I am thrilled!!!

This now means that the offspring of registered Half Welsh ponies/cobs can now also be registered with the WPCSA as Partbred Welsh.

I applaud this move on their part!!

Excellent news. It will be great to track and value the offspring of the halfbreds!

Partbred Welsh

It is a long time coming as the Brits did this 38 years ago. I am so happy it is finally happening. dianek

oh oh ooooohhhh :frowning: I wish this day had come sooner. I gelded my stallion… and doubt I can register his offspring with WPCSA, now. …sigh…

but moving on… this is FABULOUS news!!! and one I whole-heartedly support.

Give me a few more details here… Do you still have him? Maybe you could still register him and then register his foals? It would be OK if he was gelded – I don’t think that would be a factor at all.

Truly, this is fantastic news!

I no longer own him. He’s a super star now  so I cannot really regret gelding him, but I do wish I’d had this option a year ago!

I went to the WPCSA website, and cannot find the new changes… can anyone tell me if there is a percentage of welsh required? is it 12.5%? or???

Thanks!

I think you could probably go ahead and get him registered, even though you’ve sold him. I bet his new owners wouldn’t be averse to having him have papers!

The new rule is that one parent needs to be registered Half Welsh in order that the resulting foal is 25% Welsh.

If you need any clarification or help, please let me know!

Re-opening this thread because the American Connemara Society is looking to open a partbred registry too. I remembered this old thread! I can’t find the info/particulars on the WPCSA website, and am looking for ideas to model our new registry, can anyone help?

Go to page 4 in the rule book http://www.welshpony.org/welshcms/uploads/RULEBOOK2.pdf

I just saw it for the first time. Great to know

Seriously we are? When did that happen?

I thought you guys had a Partbred registry?

we do–like the Half Welsh (you are half Connemara). Maybe I misunderstood but this is talking about registering the offspring of Half Breds which we don’t.

1/4 Welsh or 1/4 Connemara provided the 1/2 Breed is registered as a 1/2 Breed.

That’s my interpretation

That would be correct for how it’s done in the US. Other Welsh registries do handle their part-bred requirements differently. Some only require ‘at least’ 12.5% ‘blood’ in their pedigree.
