Thought you all might get a kick out of the photos I had the fun of taking of a pack of Bassets playing last week . They have such an amazing relationship with gravity! Here is the link for the slideshow. http://www.smilebox.com/playBlog/4d6a49354d444d324e413d3d0d0a
Oh my those photos are hysterical!! Those are lovely AKC Bassets. My favorite is the black and tan - is it just the photos of him or is he really more dignified than the rest of those goofballs? Nice looking hound. Who is the lady in the picture - the breeder? Does she hunt them or show them?
They are really underrated as pets and hunting dogs. Thank you so much for sharing that slideshow - is it ok if I forward the link to some people I know? It’s too good not to share.
I second J Swan - and beautiful photos! You really captured their energy. My parents have a couple of basset hounds and it’s a blast watching them play - those guys are a hoot.
Please feel free to forward it J Swan. Bassets are free spirits <g> The lady who raised them is an equine bronze artist in Lexington and her ‘pack’ are all the same family that she raised as her companions. All of them are named after Greek gods and warriors Phaedra is the black and tan and only appears more sedate because she had already wrestled with everyone else for an hour <g>
LOVE IT! My childhood dog was a basset. I adored him. I even named my first human child after him. I am going to forward the link to my parents who have two rescue bassets. They will get such a kick out of it.
Our Basset pack has one AKC Basset that unfortunately, decided he wants to be a house dog and not a huntin’ dawg. So a member is going to take him home to his very own sofa. He looks very much like these hounds - and naming them after Greek Gods is absolute genius. I love classical names for hounds - give them a name to live up to!
They are the BEST couch potatoes… these sleep on the hearth in front of the fireplace and her endtables are the black metal wire crates with glass table tops on them. They are filled with pillows covered to match the house decor and the bassets come and go as they please. Their names are Herecles, Phaedra, Ptolemeaus, Athena,Diomedes, Archimedes, Diogenes,Thira , Aphrodite and the mom is Joy <g> Its a mouthful when you have to call them in!
Those are GREAT action shots!
Especially the ones where they are running towards the camera ears a-floppin’!!! LOL
Does Diogenes have a little lantern shaped dog tag? Now that would be funny!
He will now <g> Thanks!
Aw, these pictures are great. I have a bloodhound and just can’t get enough of those wrinkles and floppy ears.
Gasp!!!
Man! That’s a WHOLE LOTTA loose skin a flappin’ around there! And does anyone else think those ears are extra, extra long!!! I just LOVE pictures of bassets when they’re airborne…full stride, ears suspended in the air like big flapping wings!!! But I’m not a huge fan of the AKC’s; my current favs are the french bassets = the Blue de Gascognes! wowee! This seems like a very happy bunch. I love happy dawgs!!
Bassets - like foxhounds with their legs cut off!! Thank goodness cuz otherwise we’d never be able to stay up!!!
Oh and the loose skin reminds me of myself!!
Ohhhh you made me tear all up thinking of our bassett that passed a few years ago! Lovely photos!
They are clowns in dog suits thats for sure! We only had one, I cant imagine having that many!
Thank you for sharing!
I’m sitting here laughing at those Bassetts! They are adorable, and as for the ears, well, I can’t resist those ears. (I have a Black and Tan Coonhound, so know ears!) I just want to snuggle the entire pack!
Donk
thanks for making my day
Great pics – had to call my Dad in so we could watch the slide show together - we had bassests growing up and they are the best!!! Now to talk him into another one!! Thanks for sharing
I love bassets! I went bassetting last Sunday, and was terribly amused by them. If I didn’t already have 4 dogs, I’d take one in a heartbeat.
Your pictures were great; I shared them with my husband and parents, and they all died laughing at some of them. Great job!!!
My mom just had to put her older basset down-- that was a dog a with a real sense of humor. I’m sending her these wonderful pics.
Three Creek Bassets
Here are photos from the Three Creek Bassets
That was so cool… I loved the slide show and music… Those Bassets were having way too much fun.
Is that a private pack or subscription? Lovely hounds. It’s interesting (to me) to compare the AKC Basset and the working Basset. Not that one is superior to the other, I love them both.
