Formula 707 reviews??

I was wondering if anybody has ever used formula 707 products for their mares and weanlings? It says to feed 8-10 lbs of oats per day but that’s a crazy amount of feed to me for just a youngster. Their vitamin profile looks good but no protein fat etc. Looking for opinions on this product. I only have access to nutrena products and cereal grains such as oats, alfalfa pellets and such.

I googled formula 707 Equine Essentials… Looks like a standard vitamin mineral supplement. But yes the advice to feed 8 to 10 lbs of oats to weanlings, basically as much as they will eat up, and add corn for weight gain, is not in line with current best practices in equine nutrition.

This is a vitamin mineral supplement fed at a rate of 2 ounces a day. Typically such supplements don’t contain a lot of amino acids because those are bulkier. And they don’t provide fat.

You feed a vitamin mineral supplement in addition to a diet that included adequate protein ( good hay, alfalfa, or soy) and fat if needed (flax is good) but honestly most horses don’t require much fat.

If you want everything bundled into one you need a fortified feed.

Formula 707 has been around for decades. Not surprised that their information would be antiquated. This is not to say that the stuff isn’t useful- I just think that you have to allow for the fact that it is not cutting edge

Though it’s a little worrying that a nutrition company wouldn’t be keeping up with nutrition research.
