Please help. I’m so confused. How do I know if I need a forward flap on a saddle? Are forward flaps standard or are regular flaps standard? Are most newer saddles made with forward flaps?
If you are disproportionately long from hip to knee, you probably need a forward flap. If you are proportionate in all your parts, but just tall, you probably need a forward flap in order to avoid buying a regular flap saddle with too large a seat.

It still depends on your femur length. I’m only 5ft2 and have a long femur, I have to have a forward flap of my knee is too far over the front of the saddle, I make sure to get a flap length that is correct as well(short). A good saddle fitter will be able to fit you

Your femur length is the first standard answer but it also depends how you sit in a saddle and how you ride (short, long) AND the feel you personally like along with which brand of saddle and model your shopping for.

Every saddle will have different flaps as far as standard and forward are concerned. My knees are over the edge of a standard Antares, but I can squeeze into a Devoucoux.
Get the measurements for the saddle fitter, and then the measurement for any saddle you’re interested in.
I’m only 5’3" and I need a relatively forward flap!
