FORWARD!

My dressage tests from the show in June all said the same thing…needs more energy; more forward. After figuring out that all we were doing was a western pleasure show ring jog, I got busy.

We have much more energy now and much more forward. This morning, however, we had SUSPENSION!!! Just for a couple of strides, but wow…absolutely could not mistake that something new was going on under the saddle. My ground person exclaimed WOW…WOW…and then we lost it.

But, it’s a start. This horse never ceases to amaze me with his willingness to learn and make the effort when asked.

That is all…just had to vent my joy!

Yes, starting colts, you have those “yes!” moments all along, is what so many love of riding colts.

You will see, once you get it, it comes easier and easier.
Horses also sense it and some get very proud of themselves, they know they nailed it.

Truly moments of joy, thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Bluey. You always make me feel good!

This is an aged horse who knows way more than me. A perfect schoolmaster although at the time I thought I was just getting a show horse. He doesn’t volunteer a thing…whatever I get from him, I get the old fashioned way. I have to earn it! But, he never holds back when I do get it right. He’s perfect for me, safe and is teaching me something new with every ride.

Can you hear those old horses chatting across the aisle, “yes, I think she is getting it.
Today finally she hit that button a time or two, how nice to see her developing skills”.

Oh yes, definitely. They also comment that it looks like the diet isn’t working very well too. Cheeky bugger actually looks me up and down as asks, rhetorically “so, hows the diet coming”.

It’s funny that when I do get something right and stop to talk about what I did (many times I’m not sure) that he will let out a big sigh…I hear him saying “finally!”

I truly believe that Merrylegs and Ginger DID have those conversations.

You got it! Then you lost it. You’ll get it again. That’s the way it’s gonna be from now on. You’ll get… you’ll lose it … you’ll get it again, for longer, more often … then you’ll lose it, for shorter, less often … you’ll get it …

Now that you’ve found it, you’ll keep it … for a while … then you’ll get it and keep it some more …

Congratulations and enjoy!
