Foster cat with kittens, pregnant again?

I’m fostering a cat with kittens for a local rescue. The rescue has 50 cats and kittens and being a private and small rescue they don’t have a huge volunteer base.

Momma cat has a relatively large belly and at first I thought nothing of it. She was scared and hiding a lot so I didn’t get a good feel of her belly until tonight. She finally came out and purred and rolled over for belly rubs. As I felt her belly she definitely has a lump on one side. The lump sort of felt like a baby and that made me wonder… could she be pregnant again??? Her kittens look just like her and are still nursing but approaching the age where they are adoptable (8 weeks). I suppose they could be older then 8 weeks but small for their ages.

I plan to ask the rescue how long they have had her because they really didn’t give me any background, other then, here’s your supplies. Take them home with you. Maybe there’s another reason for the bump. I sure hope I’m wrong… maybe a hernia? Wouldn’t that be painful?

Momma cat seems really sweet. I sort of was expecting half feral- needs socialization. While terrified she never hissed or offered any aggression and she’s starting to feel safe here already. They currently have the bathroom while in quarantine for the next 2 weeks. Kittens look good. Bright eyes and no signs of respiratory issues. I’m certain they are happy to be out of a crate.

I’d get her in for a spay asap. It’s a sad reality of fostering (I’ve done over 50 myself). Definitely notify them and find out their policy. She absolutely could be pregnant again.

We are getting a tropical storm. I doubt anything will be done this week. I suspect to lose power for a couple days.

I am not certain she is pregnant or if something else is going on, whether it be cancer or a mummified fetus. Her other side feels pretty normal. The vet will probably need to take some x rays.

Definitely could be pregnant. Our barn cat suddenly weaned her kittens at 8 weeks, dropped another litter 5 days later!!! I kept her and new kittens contained in the tack room, got her spayed at 4 weeks. She kept on nursing the kittens another month before weaning them. Got the female kittens all neutered by age 6 months.

Our previous barn cats had not gotten pregnant while nursing so I was quite surprised with the second litter. Now barn cats get spayed young, no litters anymore.

If she hasn’t been at the rescue very long then I bet she is pregnant( or a good possibility).
