Fostering kittens - You can do it

My DH and I were just discussing fostering- I really want to but he keeps asking me not to because he says he’ll be too sad when they leave.

OK, good news I have finally heard from the shelter, and they are caught up on kitten placement at the moment, but we also discussed my sister who is feeding a colony of cats. They have a TNR here for $20!!! I need to talk to her, (we are not really close,) I have exchanged phone numbers and I hope to soon hear from them!

I have 2 broken white gingers in the current litter, and the 3rd is about 50/50.

But this litter is colorful. One b&w who is half a kitler, 2 o&w spotted, one o&w with a saddle, and one white with a orange spot at her tail and a very light cream head spot, and the last one is a tabico (calico with all the color spots showing tabby stripes)

Now , you know you can’t lead us on with the thought of all that Kitten cuteness and not show pix .

It’s in the COTH posting rules. Swear

For a minute I thought this was a new colour that I didn’t know about. I ugoogilized tabico and it’s another name for a caliby.

Until a little while ago I thought my Ella was a Torbie, a vet told me she’s a Torbico. She has Tortoiseshell, Calico and Tabby markings.

I didn’t know that orange and white is called “broken white gingers”. I’ll have to tell the Kittens With Mittens that they’re broken!

I’ve posted pics of them … somewhere LOL But I’ll do you one better, VIDEOS!!

This is the 80’s rockstar litter: Bowie, Toto, Blondie, Heart, Kate (Bush) and Cyndi Laupurr

This video (sound on!) Is Kate. I really should have named her Karen. She has complaints and she requires that we address her issues NOW.

lol who knows if broken white is the right term, but it is leftover from some Maine Coon terminology, that if they have a white underside, it ideally shouldn’t be “broken” with color or something like that. For whatever reason, caliby sounds bleh to me, plus I like tabbies so tabico! Also, you can call your torbico a “patched tabby” - that’s the CFA designation

Lol, they’re a bunch of hooligans and those walls won’t last much longer!

Ella is a weird one, she looks like a Torbie until you see the tiny white spot on her neck and tiny calico markings on the sides and bottoms of her paws.

When I took them in for shots earlier this week I did my older kitten config. They have the entire room now, I just block off the desk with taller panels. It doesn’t always stay kitten proof to the end of their stay, but it’s no big deal once they are reliably using the litter box!

That pounce is hilarious!! I need to borrow a couple of those to keep Boom company.

Ms. Boom napping on my shoulder. She’s so sweet when she’s tired.

OMG. That’s hilarious. Who’s the little idiot leaping around in the litter box at the beginning? And the little spotted girl with the dark patches sharing the post with Bowie? I just love all of them.

I could watch little kittens play for hours.

Yes, I AM easily amused.

Aren’t kitty colors crazy? I’ve always called Gemma a torbie - but now I’m not so sure. What say ye cat color experts?

She has multi colored toe beans, tabby stripes, but muted calico patches - most notably her orange spot on her forehead that has tabby stripes. I’m obsessed with her coat - it’s so soft and beautiful.

We call this her “first day of school” pic. I love that it shows her multi-colored torque chest stripe.eg)

Blondie in the box, she doesn’t care what’s in her way when it comes to fun. Now it’s the litterbox, it used to be the food dish.

That’s Cyndi Laupurr on the scratching post with Bowie. They are the funniest. Cyndi has always been the biggest one of the litter and Bowie was so, so small but they have been sparring partners since they got mobile. The first few days I was sure I was going to lose him and for the first 2 weeks of daily weigh ins I would say that if you don’t show me you gained any weight, today is the day I’ll try to bottle feed you. And then I would put him on the scale and he would show that he gained a tiny little bit of weight… I always saw him at Mom first, he usually got knocked off pretty fast but he was always there first. Then he was the first one to discover what the kitten food was all about, and I stopped worrying about him. Since then he’s moved up to almost number two in weight.

Gemma is gorgeous! I’m not sure what her pattern and colours makes her. Supposedly any tabby with white in the coat makes them a caliby/tabico? Like Gemma, Ella’s fur is soft as silk and it feels cool to the touch.

Ella has a tiny white spot on her chest, some around her muzzle and small bits on her two back paws. I thought that made her a caliby but two different vets said no, she a torbie. Now this most recent vet says she’s a torbico.

I can’t see Ms.Boom’s forehead. Is she a tortilla, torbie or tabico?
