I was searching thru my storage shed for something else today, and I came upon a 1997 Millers catalog! Of course I spend a good half hour flipping through it. I was surprised that the prices didn’t seem far off from today’s prices. One thing I DID notice, was that turnout blankets/sheets have definately come a LONG way in design! I couldn’t bear to toss it out, so I packed it back in the tote it came out of
Oh I loveddddddddddd the old Millers catalogs!! I thought the layout of the sheets were so cool! So many color combinations!
Ronnie Mutch was the art director for those catalogues.
I have an old one packed away some place too, I saved it because a friend’s Jack Russell is modeling in it next to a pair of paddock boots. I think mine is from around 2000 or 2002.
I love the old catalogs. I recently came across a few old ones in a box of magazines from the same era. “Libertyville Supersale '85” & “Schneiders Sellathon 1987”
Prices haven’t changed too, too much for similar products, but the styles… wow.
Looks like there may be a market for these things on ebay! I vaguely remember the Millers catalogs from the late 70’s/early 80’s.
Any chance of taking some pics of it and uploading? I’d love to see a page or two!
If you are taking requests, can you photograph whatever page has the jean/chaps combo?

Oh, I owned those… yes, yes I did. I seem to remember even wearing them a few times… the biege light denium combo
I think horse books and ephemera are what I collect in lieu of having a horse. Here’s my Miller’s catalog collection:

I remember having a few of these catalogs growing up, but I think I actually bought all of the catalogs pictured here. Growing up, I never had any of the ones going back to the 70s, just the 80s. All of the cover art is Sam Savitt’s, of course, except for the 1984 cover, which was done by Christine Picavet. Gaaroovy fashion shots are from the 1977 and 1979 editions.
Another jeans/chaps combo owner! Had to have them because a girl at my barn had them and looked great in them. Unfortuneately, they did no justice to my “flat” a$$! I can still hear my husband saying how awful I looked in them!
I loved those catalogs, and I especially loved the Savitt drawings. I still have some as well.
My hoarding tendencies have made me keep over 1000 Chronicles going back to the 1960’s. I am just now considering uncluttering my attic with them.
Oh Chunky Munky…how I miss those stiff white papers pages, all the black and white photo’s…the show results…And most of all the covers!! I always wanted to wall paper my powder room or a focal point wall in a den w/ the covers…really do miss them!!!

a perfect job for his multi-faceted genius. a lot of people don’t know that Ronnie was highly successful in advertising in a very competitve NYC market before he returned to horses. the layouts were just amazing. one of my favorites was the whips…
I had forgotten about jean chaps… until now! As a kid in the early 90s, I LOVED the Millers catalogs. There was one geared to pony kids at the time, I think it was called “Millers Small World of Riding” or something of that nature. I spent many hours going through those pages…
I have a catalog from the 60"s and some from the 70’s…
BTW, The Ronnie Mutch catalogs from the 80’s were definetly genuis
i loooved the old Millers catalogs! I was sad to find them gone when i reentered the riding world. I also love finding old receipts, reminiscing on buying clothes and things for the horse.
I remember one from the late 80’s (ish) when I was a kid, with Liza Towell on the cover on a gray pony, complete with pigtails & bows. It was a really famous pony, featured in a chronicle article in the last several years. I think there was also an adult on a gray jumper on the same cover- was it Abdullah?
