Found Marathon Information

Does anyone have a link for the driving marathon map?? The Alltech venue map will not scroll down to any links for me – I can’t even see if a link for this is there. Their site is not user friendly.

I tried goggling it and no one seems to have posted anything – why, oh why is this so difficult?? The organizers should have made this easy.

Of course none of this is on the Alltech website!

see you’all there!!

YAY! Thank you Pony Grandma. I’ve been looking for this and couldn’t find it either. Thanks for your persistence!

Wow!

Thanks Pony Grandma! Great info!

Thank you soooooooo much for posting those!!! I had found the order of go sheets and x-c map for x-c last week and opened them all on my phone before going (beat the heck out of buying the $2 sheet when I got there). This info will rock to have in the phone for tomorrow. THANK YOU!!!

Where do you think the best viewing spots will be? I have never been to a driving event before, but looking forward to it! Thanks for posting the links Pony Grandma!

The Carriage Association Blog has some info and if you dig deeper you will see some pre-event pics of the obstacles for the marathon.

Right now they have some nice shots of the dressage

Typically water hazards are exciting. Hazards with a hill tends to get exciting. Tight turns can be exciting or boring depending on how much they need to slow down to make the turn.

They are using Head of the Lake. I know there is one with a mound

I’ve been looking at the Chronicle Pictures…

of Chester Weber and I am developing a big ole crush on him!

There’s just something very attracitve about a man in morning coat and top hat commandeering 4 big horses like it was nothing! ;);)

Go Team Weber!

Is there?

Is there any information on the horses somewhere? Thanks!

what are the other maps on that site for, Section ADE and Section AD…are those courses not used? Want to make sure I’m at the right place :)…

I gotta say, after watching the live stream from today’s dressage, I am a committed Boyd Exell fan now! Love, love, love those horses. Can’t wait to get out there and see the marathon tomorrow!

I did find this site which has info on their team horses

I’m sure that the mound hazard is #4. I may start out at 2 & 3 to meet up with some people, then hi-dee-ho out to the field to see 7,4,6,and 5, then walk back (see them again :D) and go see 1 & 8 last.

I agree - there are men in this sport, ruggedly handsome, the kind that muck about in jeans and then clean up real good

CAA has pics of obstacles

Hope you are checking before heading out. CAA blog

http://carriageassociation.wordpress.com/

just posted overhead shots of all the marathon obstacles. It will give you a better feel for what’s out there.

Solid wall one is likely to be harder to see, but these overheads don’t show if this is on a hill which may help

Boyd is supposed to be something else to see in dressage - marathon - cones.

By the way… the ‘other maps’ are for the other sections of the course. Section A is roads and tracks. Section D is a mandatory walk - but not a lazy walk - its a march. That’s followed by a mandatory rest/vet check before they let you out on Section E, which is obstacles.

There used to be a Section B (walk) rest then Section C (speed trot) but marathons have been shortened

now has overhead pics of all obstacles for driving. Hope this catches you before you go out.

Enjoy

FEI TV has a FREE virtual marathon course walk video that shows you the routes through the hazards. Go to FEITV.org and click on WEG then Free Videos.

GO TEAM USA!! (You’re our last chance!)

Maps of the Marathon

A driving marathon is divided into 3 sections A, D, E (yes, there used to be 5 section marathons (A,B,C,D,E)). Section A is like roads & tracks without any hazards, is any pace (walk, trot, canter), can be up to 8K and for horses the allowed time is calculated at 15kph. Section D is the walk section (therefore walk only, breaks of pace are penalized), is 1K, and 7kph (for most this is quite an aggressive walk speed). After D there is a mandatory 10 minute break & vet check. Section E is where the hazards are located, can be 9K long at 14kph, any pace. Penalty points are applied for every second inside the hazards (obstacles) and for any time over the allowed time or under a 2 minute (section A) or 3 minute (section E) window.

That’s a long preface to answer the question about the maps. Most events provide maps of the various sections. At the WEG, they provided 3 maps: one, with sections A&D, one with section E, and one with sections A&D&E, as well as sketches of the hazards (obstacles).

I realize this is a bit late :-), but for the most part its the hazards that are where all the action takes place.

I’d be happy to answer any other questions you might have.

hope that makes sense,
Mike Arnold
