Found out an interesting tidbit about my mare's pedigree

She is a great great granddaughter of Bold Ruler on her dam’s side (is that called a damline?). I was reading Laurierace’s post about her broodmare, looked at her link and typed my mare’s name in a viola! Her JC papers don’t go back that far. Sorry if this is should be in the racing forum, I never post there. I was never really interested in bloodlines, mainly because I didn’t know much of anything about them. Anyway I think it’s pretty cool that my mare is kinda sorta related to Secretariat, or at least has Bold Ruler in there. http://www.brisnet.com/cgi-bin/fc_display.cgi?userfile=P20854352512870http://www.brisnet.com/cgi-bin/fc_display.cgi?userfile=P20854352512870

Are the astricks noting inbreeding? Can anyone explain why Princequillo and Nasrullah are astricked?

I like her pedigree!
Love the inbreeding 5x5 Nasrullah, 5x5 Princequillo, plus Double Jay… lots more.
Would be interested to hear viney’s thoughts.

The asterisks indicate imported/European bred stallions.

You might like this site better, as it has more info and pictures

I like your opinion! I had an oh crap moment when I realized there was inbreeding thinking I might get flamed for having (and breeding) an “inbred tb”.

As for the rest I really have no idea what that means.:confused:

Thanks Simkie! How do I get to pictures? Sorry, I am clueless. Obviously.

Just click on some of the names in her pedigree. Go click Sword Dancer, for example, and hover your cursor over the little square horse picture following his name above the pedigree.

That’s a lovely pedigree. Gallant Man on top, and down on the bottom, many generations back, which doesn’t matter for MtDNA, the VERY, VERY great mare, Fairy Gold, the dam of Fair Play, sire of Man O’ War and many, many other good TB lines for sport.

Minnant had Ksar for her damsire, and the line to your mare was bred to Bahram, who is superlative for jumping, as is Ksar, who is Dollar line. He was a bust as a sire in North America, but the mare in your horse is all European bred. Your horse also has a grandson of Prince Palatine in Mate. Prince Palatine was the sire of the French sire, Rose Prince who was the sire of Prince Rose, sire of Princequillo, Prince Bio, and Prince Chevalier, all of whom are wonderful in sport horse pedigrees. Mate’s dam is a granddaughter of Dark Ronald, who is a foundation sire in Germany for TBs and WBs.

La Dauphine is Princequillo x Baby League, which gets you to the Teddy daughter, La Troienne, a superlative line for athletic thoroughbreds. Warfare is a grandson of Hyperion (Alibhai) through Determine, whose dam is a Mahmoud daughter. Warfare’s dam, War Whisk, is by War Glory, a Man O’ War son out of Annette K, who was also the 2nd dam of War Admiral. Annette K’s dam is Bathing Girl, who produced Lido who appears in sport TBs, as well as Seaplane, who was the second dam of Eight Thirty, a very reliable line in sport horses. Annette K’s sire was Harry of Hereford, a full brother of Swynford who was one of the most important sires of the early twentieth century.

Then you have a line to Bull Lea, one of the very best North American lines for jumping. He has several inches of descendants in very small type in Dr. Birdsall’s 1981 books on Bloodlines in North American Sport Horses.

Then you have Delta Judge who is from the same female family as Roberto (and others) and also gives you another line to Bull Lea by way of the second dam. His dam’s sire was Noor, a Nasrullah son who is very, very highly thought of as a sport horse line in Ireland. Noor is out of Queen of Bagdad, a daughter of Bahram.

Delta Judge is by Traffic Judge, who is also excellent for sport horses. He’s got a son, Traffic, who was sent to France and can be found in WB pedigrees. Traffic Judge is by Alibhai, and his dam is another one of those wonderful daughters of Discovery (grandson of Fair Play).

Then you have Monarchy, the full sister of Round Table, and Bold Ruler.

from the bottom of the top–Brulette is Dollar line, and Desert Sun’s sire was Hyperion. Double Jay is wonderful in sport horse TBs, especially as dam sire. Calista is by the same sire as Damascus. Then you have Believe Me, which is another line to Alibhai; and Fleet Nasrullah, which doubles the Nasrullah in Bold Ruler. On top, Juliet’s Nurse is one of the best, and Gallant Man is Gallant Man.

These are all the staple lines for well bred Thoroughbreds in North America back in the days before Mr. P and Northern Dancer and Native Dancer.

Holy Cow Viney!! That’s awesome!! Thanks for that breakdown! I’ve had this girl 15 years and really never thought to look beyond the basics! That’s really neat! She is a great jumper, nice and square, scopey, fast as he11 (to me!) in a flat gallop. One question, what are the numbers on the bottom of the pedigree page?

And what is MtDna?

The Dosage 4-2-0-0 means that of the chef de race in her pedigree 4 points come from sprinters and 2 points come from milers.

Dosage index means that she works out to neutral for distance aptitude.

Center of Distribution means that she works out to a slight, almost unnoticeable tilt towards the shorter distances.

MtDNA is the genetics of the mitochondria, the fuel engines of the cell. MtDNA is inherited solely through mares, and in an individual horse, through the mares on the very bottom of the pedigree.
