Fox Hunting Tail Keeper?

Does anyone know what this is called and/or where you can buy one?

It’s on the Bit Of Britian main page (at least for now):

The rider looks like a fox hunter so I thought I’d try you guys first.

Fantastic!

The headline cued pics of fishing line with fox tails strung on it!

The horse’s tail is done in a mud knot and is held with tape. I didn’t look at this pic closely, but usually it’s electrical tape. The mud knot is done so the tail doesn’t collect a bunch of mud, making it heavy and a burden on the horse.

What I have seen used for a mudtail many times (but not like the one in the picture) is a giant rubber band made from a slice of a tire’s inner tube. You cut a cross-section of the tube about 3/4 of an inch wide to make a rubber band that would have a diameter of about 4 inches. Very strong and obviously cheap. A black version of a rubber band for a helmet cover might work too.

Braid the tail from the end of the tailbone down, then roll up the braid and put the big band around the roll. Be careful to never do anything that would cut off the blood flow in the tail bone.

In other words, there is no such thing you can buy that we know of ? I have seen many methods, but you need to braid and wrap the hair so it stays up and out of the way or mud, etc.

Is there something you can buy? Probably. But, you see, you’ve come to fox hunters with your question, and we, as a rule, would much rather make something effective and cheap than spend money on it.

There is no need to use anything to make a mud knot, apart from tail hair.
