Fox Hunting VS Decorating your House

My decor is very minimalist and neutral. I have a scattering of foxes depicted on various objects, and a couple of hunt scenes.

I think foxes are beautiful, intelligent and playful creatures, but they are also keen predators that wiped out my small flock of chickens in days, and recently stashed the carcass of one in a stall from who knows where.

I love watching the hounds work, hot on a trail, but I secretly hope the fox finds a deep secure earth, but preferably not before leading us on an adrenaline pumping, blistering run. I don’t chase because I want to see foxes killed. I want to hear the hounds singing, cross the gorgeous countryside, enjoy my horse and my friends and catch a glimpse of him.

The fox allows all of this. Without the fox, there is no sport. Same for the hounds and the horses. I have images of all three in my home. I don’t see the conflict.

The foxes on my property (too small and suburban for mounted hunting) help themselves to the dog food buffet, and I toss the them mice from the snap and zap traps. They are welcome neighbors. If I suspected mange I would medicate them. They have whelped a litter here every year.

I think this goes way back, like to the ice ages. You love and are enthralled by what you hunt, so want it on your walls - the cave walls! A form of worship, if you will.

Our second flight master had a view, and was so pleased to tell everyone. It’s a rare occurrence and quite revered IME. One trotted out across the road one early morning as I was driving to the farm for a hunt and it excited me then. I love and admire the fox and appreciate the sport it gives.

As for decor, I have been gifted many horsey themed pictures but my favorite finds are two large glicees discovered in a mountain thrift store. They are old English prints of very stately mounts and hounds. I have one fox picture, going to ground. My decor definitely says equestrian, with irons and a bit with reins hanging from the wall. Friends and family all know that I hunt, but I’ve always had horsey decor.

I laughed when reading the OP, as I too thought “decor OR hunt”

I have a Fox Brush hanging in a Bell Jar (brush awarded to me by the Avon Vale Hunt after a really nice day in Wiltshire) and a plaque mounted deer foot from the Quantocks Stag Hunt during one of my trips to Exmoor. Most of the other décor is pics of me looking magnificent while hunting, and assorted hunt prints. I had other brushes but they rotted and fell apart.

One thing I think is interesting about fox hunting decor is how so often the hunters are depicted as foxes (or is it the other way around?) I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything similar in other hunting decoration or art - there are no figurines of duck hunters with duck heads.
