Fox Urine for Drag hunters

To fellow drag hunters
I have a few questions for you.

  1. Where do you get your scent?
  2. What do you mix the urine with to ensure good scenting? And what % make up is it?
  3. How far in advance of the hunt do you lay the drag?
  4. How do you lay your drag?

Thanks

I use fox urine in my garden to help keep rabbits out. A company called Leg Up Enterprises.

Any idea how they collect that urine? I can’t imagine the foxes are terribly cooperative!

Downen, either they kill the animal and drain its bladder or keep them on a small wire cage with a metal pan below to collect it. Either way, ugh :frowning:

Thank you for bringing this up. Never thought about it but collecting fox urine CANT be a pleasant thing for the foxes. Stupid things people think of to amuse themselves.

My impression is that most hunts do not use fox urine. For a long time hunts used aniseed oil but I believe many use a powdered chemical that is diluted in water.

I haven’t hunted in 15 years… but we often used fox urine if we were hunting in an area that was prudent to use a drag.
I got to be “the fox” once. Carried a squeeze bottle of urine in my saddle pouch, which I sprayed on a towel, attached to a rope. Set out about 20 minutes before the hunt, and laid a marvelous trail over the 500 acres we had use of, making sure to include all the great cross-country jumps. Hardest part was making sure the drag didn’t get stuck or tangled. Funniest part was having the hounds catch me…
