Foxhound killed in Wales

An odd event in which a foxhound loose on a major road in Wales was deliberately run over and killed by the police to prevent a potential accident . Public outcry ensues

Poor police driver: bet he felt sick.

One point I find odd is that the hound bit a police officer. Doesn’t sound very hound-like but one rarely reads the full story in a press report.

An explanation of options available to the police

The story was a lead item on the national news.

I agree with you that it is odd that a hound would bite the officer. I guess if it was stressed enough.
I love that PETA weighed in yet of course they didn’t care that hounds might have gotten put down when they got fox hunting banned in the first place.

The road between Llanfairfechan and Conwy is about 8-9 miles and it’s a solid concrete cliff on one side, and concrete barrier downslope to a cliff into the sea on the other side. Two lanes each direction and the tunnel is not expansive.

A crash along that road would be very bad news, particularly when you take into account that it’s the main trucking route from Ireland, through Holyhead and into England (Chester, then Liverpool) - lots of HGV lorries on the road with places to be, and quarry trucks from the slate mines too. Throw in tourists as it a very beautiful area, and, well…

Police in the UK don’t carry guns routinely either, so letting the dog cause an accident while they went to fetch one would have been crazy.

Sad to say they did the right thing.

Finally the police did a good job
