Friday afternoon, my husband found a stray dog running down the middle of the road. He’d obviously lived out for some time, but came to Mike when he got out of the truck and called. We took him to our vet immediately, he had two fractured rear molars, worms, was possibly the filthiest, smelliest dog I’ve ever encountered in my years, almost too awful to hold on the way to the vets. He never wimpered or growled throughout the exam, just licking kind faces and wagging his little docked tail as fast as it would go. The vet aged him at about two years old. His back teeth were broken in half clear to the root, he had to be in incredible pain from it, and based on the food stuck up in his jaws, they’d been that way quite some time. We had a heartworm test done(neg) full set of shots and have scheduled the neuter and tooth extraction for Monday. We will have slightly over $1400 invested in him when we pick him up Tuesday. The money, thankfully is no problem, and the vet broke the rules by taking a stray directly in and isn’t charging us the board for the weekend.
The problem is, that we have an only, elder Corgi that simply will not accept another dog, we’ve tried several and he just won’t have it. He as graciously adapted to our busy schedule and even if he were willing, we simply don’t have time to introduce another dog into the household properly.
“Nick” as my husband named him, is a two year old terrier mix, that very closely resembles a Brussells Griffon except that his ears are down, not up. He is a dark brindle, soon to be neutered male. He is quite small, did not bark and weighs only 13 pounds. He has a loveable personality, and we believe he is housebroken. He jumped up on any available lap and showered everyone with little puppy kisses. He rode in the truck on the console, looking out the front window like he’d done it his whole life. Portable type dog. He deserves much better than a shelter cage for Christmas. We did the easy part, and he’ll be ready to go to his new home on Tuesday. I’ll deliver him to his new home within a two hour drive.
Please, someone make Nick’s Christmas wish for his own loveable person to snuggle up with come true, and find this little guy a home.

As much as our hearts go out to this little guy, we simply cannot keep him.
