Foxhunters on Facebook

Please feel free to join a group I started on Facebook - it’s called Foxhunters on Facebook (original, yes?).

There are over 3,000 members from all over the world. It’s been a lot of fun.

Hope to see you there (and here, too!)

Tried to visit the page but I guess I have to be accepted as a friend first.

The group has really taken off - I’m really enjoying it

I was a long time fan of FOL, but foxhunters on FB is even better. Easier to use and post pictures.

I visit the page several times a day, and approve any legit members. If you’ve not been approved yet, please PM me and let me know. Look forward to seeing you!

There are a number of posts that are completely off-topic. I do wish some of the posts were more regulated. It might mean having someone who actually foxhunts do the moderating.

Michael Vick, horse racing, personal problems all seem to be taking over posts that actually matter to the fox hunting community.

Whoooo! I requested.
So glad to see so many of my hunt members are already a member.

Love FOF!

There are some that are off-topic but most are of hunts, people hunting, hounds and generally great pics. I actually love it. I tried to join the other group - FOL - and really couldn’t get the hang of it so I stopped looking at it. This one is great! I even connected with folks from another state and had an opportunity to hunt with them… LOVE IT!

Not sure I agree. In fact, the person who created the page posts a lot of animal cruelty links, some shared directly from PETA and HSUS. It’s ridiculous, and I just can’t support it. It’s a great idea, but falls short when people share every single post about horses and dogs available on YouTube and the dozens or so posts every week pandering for donations for this rescue and that rescue.

I stand by my comment. In order to have an effective group for people who fox hunt, it needs to be moderated by someone who actually fox hunts (or has fox hunted, or has a vested interest in the sport). Barbara Dove does not fox hunt, and many of the topics she posts are completely inappropriate and create questions of conflicts of interest and even alarm bells for antis.

Of course, should you raise these concerns with her, you will be removed from the group.

ISR? I couldn’t disagree with you more. Love the page! Makes me smile all the time. I’m not even sure you’re looking at the same site I am!! I love it and it’s free! FOL cost moola! And I like seeing/hearing from our brethren from across the pond too. Sorry! I think the 3200 members speaks for itself.
Why bless your heart!

I don’t recall seeing any animal cruelty posts. I wonder if ISR confused this with something else. Noticed that when a bunch of for sale ads for “prospects” were posted and a few comments were made, FOF asked that only hunted horses be advertised. I liked that. My favorite page is Fox and Coyote Hounds. Lots of hounds to look at, not just mounted packs.

I vaguely remember seeing some animal cruelty stuff a while ago (and other things that were mentioned) but, frankly, I’m there for the hunting-related stuff (international is particularly fun!) and just scroll past the fluff.

I think FB can be a difficult medium for sharing and discussion without being somewhat trite and superficial. It’s not exactly anonymous or secure, and I wouldn’t want to inadvertently cause any problems for my hunt or landowners. That said, I’ll be sharing even less in future having caught just enough of the most recent kerfluffle (someone was banned, someone else asked about it, which degraded oddly quickly and ended with another ‘poof’) to be rather confused and unsettled by the moderation.

I do still greatly appreciate the occasional hunt report or pithy observation that pops up on FOL.

Not sure of the exact reason he was struck off, but I know that in the past I’ve had odd pm’s from that guy. Couldn’t help wondering if he had maybe been bothering others as well. In which case, no great loss. I enjoy the page, and especially hearing about hunting in other countries.

No, not confused at all.

A quick scan reveals posts about rollkur, stall cleaning machines, hay feeders and 5 dozen posts from someone who posts pictures of gypsy vanners and internet horse memes.

I appreciate the hunt reports, and relevant questions, and of course all the hunt photos both national and international, but like almost every other group on FB, its just getting full of junk.

In the Files section of FOFB, there is a listing of “What is OK to post on FOFB.” I would suggest reading it if you have a question about what is accepted or not.

Just as in hunting, there are times the Master has to make tough decisions. While the rest of the pack, or the field, may not understand WHY, it simply needs to be done. There is a LOT more going on behind the scenes that what appears on the surface. And when a member is harassing other members, either on the page or privately, they are not welcome in the group.

I feel no need to post why I make these decisions; my group, my rules. Let’s just say that I started the list last April, and so far have only had to ban 3 members. Out of 3,200 people. I think that’s pretty low odds.

And yes, I am a foxhunter, ISR. Your information is incorrect and a lie. I hunted 3 seasons with Wolf Creek Hounds in southern Illinois, which sadly is no longer in existence. I also capped with 2 other hunts. I received my colors in 2010, and I also was a member of a foot pack with bassets. My hunt horse was diagnosed with EPM, and is not doing well at all. So getting back into hunting is not a possibility at this time, but not out of the question in the future.

So I suggest that if anyone has any issues with how I run the group, send me a message through the FB page. I’ve had several “chats” with members, and except for one person, have been able to work it all out. Unless you are afraid to let your real name appear, and prefer to hide behind a screen name, contact me. Everyone knows who I am; I have nothing to hide!

Yes, “master”

FWIW, I’m the person you banned because I questioned your call to whip a black football player. The irony of a white woman wanting to whip a black man was not lost on me. In any event, there more groups on FB, which have more to do with fox hunting than rollkur, horse rescue, puppy mills, michael vick, or whatever else you feel like posting about.

As I shared with you, advocating violence on a page that supports fox hunting can be misconstrued.

ISR, you are clearly showing your ignorance in that last accusation. It is impossible to fight stupidity.

Well, bless your heart! With every post you make, you are further confirming exactly WHY I banned you. ISR, you are clearly showing your ignorance in that last accusation. It is impossible to fight stupidity.

You deleted the post, so I can only presume you saw the error in your ways. Good for you!
