Are there any hunts near Houston or any at least within a few hours? Thanks!
A friend of mine is a master of. Hunt in TX but not sure how close to Houston it is.
try www.mfha.org
There’s a map you can click on to find hunts
Hiiii, I think you’re out of luck. I’m in Austin, used to hunt with Independence Hounds; unfortunately last year was their last year. I’m relatively confidence that the other hunts listed in Houston, Kenada and Long Acre, are also defunct.
We currently hunt up near Dallas with Cloudline.
Briar creek hounds is the one I was thinking of. I haven’t checked if they are on MFHA yet. I know they have a fb page if that helps
Briar Creek Hounds is North of Dallas!
They just had their opening weekend.
Marcella & the gang are all wonderful and the country is so fun with very inviting jumps and a 2nd/3rd (depending how big the turnout is that day) flight, if jumping isn’t your style. Big Sky Hounds comes down and joint hunts with them through the year as well.
They are not recognized by the MFHA at this time.
There are no hunts “close” to Houston. Closest would probably be Cloudline in Dallas, or Briar Creek that others have mentioned. Brazos Valley is west of Fort Worth. Until last year there was also one near Austin, but they are all slowly going away.
poster didn’t ask for recognized hunts
You commented that you didn’t know if they were recognized. I was just responding to that. Someone else posted the website for contact. They aren’t listed in the MFHA directory which is usually where ppl familiar with hunting first look to find a hunt.
The MFHA Directory always confuses me because they constantly list Kenada Fox Hounds as an active hunt, but I don’t think Amy hunts at all anymore. She’s been showing cutters lately and Blanche shows hunters, but I’m pretty sure never carried it on. Maybe she just keeps the status alive and has a small breeding pack but doesn’t actually hunt?
All speculation of course. I’m just always curious when I got on MFHA directory and see them.
It’s funny you say that. After reading this thread yesterday I checked the MFHA website and had the exact same thought. I’ve hunted with Brazos Valley since 2010 and a lot of their older members used to hunt with Kenada back in the day. I think it’s just some form or something that some employee fills out every year bc she never thinks to tell them not to! To my knowledge, and up until a couple years ago I was quite involved in the foxhunting world, Kenada hasn’t hunted since the early 2000s.
Its definitely got to be a form someone in her very busy, large circle fills out. I think you’re right about the time as well. I was actively hunting when I moved to TX, so that was 2011, and I don’t remember her being an active hunt then.
Hello! I researched this extensively about a year ago and the answer is… No. As posters have mentioned cloudline is the closest. Are you in Houston? Would you ever wanna haul to a Dallas hunt? I’m a Houston and I’ve played with the idea but not ever done it.
