It had been closed for awhile to deal with problems but was supposed to reopen in September. From the article it sounds like the area will be developed for touristy stuff. But maybe I’m reading that part wrong.

Their meet was going to start soon. Apparently there were horses and people at the track already. Horsemen are very upset, and I’m seeing posts about trying to stop this closure. I have friends who are involved, some of the local TB racing people also are involved in the SB industry.
I don’t think that they can “stop” this closure. And I think that Hastings Park (for TBs) will be next. The city of Vancouver just isn’t interested in horse racing, and it has been POORLY promoted for YEARS. For decades actually. I left Hastings Park and TB racing 20 years ago. It had deteriorated severely by that point IMO. And Fraser Downs is worse (IMO). Hastings Park is going to be a brand new soccer stadium… so they say. For the “Whitecaps”.

Back in the 80’s a friend that bred standardbreds would race the ones that didn’t sell in CA at the numerous fair tracks in the PNW including ID. I’m pretty sure she even talked about taking the ferry to a track on one of WA’s islands.

All of those tracks are long gone. I think the state fair still has tb racing.
