Free Kindle Books? Do they still exist?

I don’t have a kindle, but a galaxy tablet. Although I much prefer real books, I crossed over to the dark side when one book in the middle of a series I was reading was only available as audio…

Does amazon still give away books ow and then?
I am cheap (and broke) and always on the lookout for a great deal.
(and the tablet is driving me nuts with it’s navigational problems…fat fingers - it makes searching a pain, took me two hours to browse for what I got this morning)

Xenophone wouldn’t be available by any chance, or Baucher’s slipper equitation?

I’m pretty sure they do … like especially the classics. I have a kindle. I just went into my account and tried finding books in general, sorted lowest price first. There were a ton of what look to me like third rate publish-yourself kinds of authors, all selling for free. So then I tried plugging in names of a few classics I could think of off the top of my head, and a lot of those were free too.

What I don’t know is whether the fact that I have Amazon Prime …whether that influenced how many freebies I saw.

Xenophon - on Horsemanship, The Sportsman,
Bauacher - free in french, $2.99 enlglish

But is it the slipper equitation!

I used to have Prime but ditched it, not using it enough.
Need to go back and search then.

There are a couple of services that will email you daily deals. My favorite is BookBub. Another option is Free Digital Reads—although the daily emails aren’t exactly daily with this one. BookBub allows you to select your favorite authors and it’ll send you an email when they releases something that is free or discounted. You can also sort by your favorite genres.

I get plenty of free e-books & audiobooks through our library. I think it’s called “Open Drive” that I use to find them.

Paydirt, found Xenophone and Baucher (in english) for free.

Sorry about my quick post on Xenophon and Baucher … I had been waiting for someone to get here, and of course when he finally showed I was in the middle of starting a post, so I just finished fast. Glad you found what you were looking for.

No worries, you pointed me in the right direction. Naturally the ‘FREE’ isn’t on the front page for the kindle store.
(I have maxed out my online library checkouts…)

Pixel of Ink and E-Reader News also e mail ea day with free and cheap books. Some are pretty bad, but I’ve gotten some good ones too.

If you subscribe to Kindle First on Amazon (I’m not sure if you need Prime but I don’t think you do) then you can get a free brand new book every month by a new-ish author. So far I’ve liked the ones I’ve read

Download the Kindle app and sign up for Bookbub. You’ll get an email with at least one or two free books every day and several for $.99 or $1.99. I haven’t bought a book in months, not even one for $.99

This is a prime thing

Alagirl, if you do run out of free stuff to read, you can subscribe to Kindle Unlimited for ten bucks a month. I like it quite a bit and wind up reading a whole slew of stuff that I wouldn’t otherwise.

There are indeed quite a few free Kindle books all the time. Some books are always free, some are free for a week or two as special promotions. Right on Amazon’s site, you can do that specific search: “kindle free books.”

Maybe half to three quarters is shlock, but there are some great gems, especially first books in long series that are now offered free with the hope that you’ll buy the rest.

You’ll also find packages of multiple books for sale cheaply during promotions, like 10 for 99 cents.

If your favorite author has facebook or an email list, get on it, because they will cross promote and tell you about the free specials.

If you like fantasy and sf, Baen has a free library: http://www.baenebooks.com/c-1-free-library.aspx

Anything in the public domain - basically before 1922 - can probably be found free for Kindle.

And then of course your library may also have titles for lending.

Kindle Unlimited has a free trial. I found it, well, limited, in that many of the books I wanted weren’t included. I decided that giving myself a $10 a month allowance for eBooks made me much happier, because I get to pick what I want and keep the books.

Don’t forget that nearly any Kindle title has a free sample that will let you read a few chapters before you buy. This is super helpful to me. If I get to the end of the sample and am still eager to read on, then I can buy it.

I have hundreds of free Kindle books, plus the Kindle Unlimited. There are a number of goodies I’ve found that way, and for the books you only want to read once, you can read them once and return for the next book in the series or something else. My husband is on my account and he’s often reading these books. Some books I dismiss early on as not worth the trouble, and he’ll read them in their entirety. I also love my Prime membership. I use the free movies and TV feature, the photo storage and other storage options (free ones only), and all of the other Prime goodies. Yes, I’m paying 99.00 a year for them…and they are SO worth it. I’ve bought a lot of books from Amazon.com over the years, and have about 5400 e-books, mostly free ones.

Search for Model Agent. It’s my husband’s book

And when I say that, yes, he wrote it.

There are 7 in the series- that is the first, and it is free.

Gutenberg.org has free downloads also.

Start with the classics the newer free ones are a crapshoot there is a lot of drek out there.

I forgot about the Gutenberg one! They have the one or the other I want in a portable format!
