Free lease gone bad

Pretty much. The fb post is a screen shot urging people to call troop K which is the main office for the resident state troopers in the area. According to that post the night of the 20th the OP took the pony out of the barn.

@Scribbler, the OP did more than blur the facts. She flat out lied.

What is it with new posters skewing/lying about the facts surrounding ponies? Do we need a bigger open trailer?

The actual kids were being discussed upthread, that’s why.

Frankly, I think the REAL truth isn’t either version myself. There’s probably more we don’t know. Where is Poster #3 to give their .02?

And then folks wonder why, when we get a new member arriving specifically to tell a story about My Awful Trainer, we tend to ask questions and be rather sceptical :).

Just because the trainer makes a big deal on social media, how do you know this pony was actually stolen? What makes her word legit?

For what it’s worth, I know friends of trainer and people who have commented on the Facebook posts and spoken to some a layer closer than I am, and frankly, it seems to be legit as far as I can tell. Again, I could pass either poster on the street and not know it, but the horse world is not terribly big around here.

I wondered that too. That, and everyone saying ā€œOMG, how could she do that to the poor kids?!ā€ Pony was at auction, if they cared SO MUCH, why not buy the pony???

Did you read what the BO wrote? Her side is she put a lien on the pony, put the pony up for auction per CT law and then bought the pony herself.

From the FB page, I found a post urging people to help get the pony back and that she contacted the resident state trooper. This post was a week before the OP came here acting like she didn’t have the pony.

Only because we had existing COTH members from the area say it seems like the trainers story seems more verified, and the wierdness of the OP posting all of this a week after she apparently had the pony in her possession and the trainer had notified police.

OP did say on here she now has pony. Whether that counts as stealing or as retrieving her own property, I will leave to Judge Judy.

I’m not saying I 100 % believe that the trainer would be awarded ownership in a court trial.

Also OP hasnt been back on here to stand up for herself.

I appreciate that, but still trainer and friends of trainer are going to give their side of the story.

Personally, I think the only way to make any of this work out for both parties is with lawyers. OP should come out from hiding. If her side is really what she says, she better have lawyers.

I understand that. I am not picking sides per se but I find it funny that the exact path of this thread with people telling OP to get her horse and then the OP does, happened two weeks before the given (by the OP) timeline. I found this on a FB page (given by the BO who did not remain anonymous) I didn’t even know existed

I want to add too, I don’t know the barn or the BO but troop K patrolled the town I grew up in so that’s how I know about it.

Why would the OP buy back her own pony?

My guess is about 90% of the ā€œstolen horseā€ notifications that go out on social media are actually this kind of thing, disputes over ownership or over fees owing. Rather than random rustlers.

I also think that a good chunk of such cases are really about interpersonal disputes, as here where a long standing friendship or business arrangement implodes.

All the emotion here is at root about that. On both sides.

I read through a bunch of comments and posts but did not see this, but back to the original story - if the pony was a free lease for one year, how could there be a lien on the pony? If OP really was at the barn regularly and around this pony often, how did a lien happen without her knowledge?

@emipou per the OP the pony had been free leased to the BO for 8.5 years. I’m pretty sure the OP knew about the lien if there was one. This relationship went south when it no longer worked for both or one party to have the OP work at the barn.

Oh, you’re right! I hadn’t read the OP since last week.

Okay, but pieces of the story like this, make things a little questionable to trainer’s story. It seems like something else is going on:

I do this and with in 6 weeks get a letter stating I abandoned the horse 8.5 years ago and owe back board, and she states she never signed the agreement. During this 8.5 years we we’re on good terms, I had multiple other horses boarded at the facility, lived on the facility, and taught lessons for her.

So, basically if the trainer’s story is right, there never was an agreement, ever. The pony was liened back when the supposed free lease began, and the trainer bought it instead of agreeing and signing agreement? Something fishy to that story. - If OP is telling the truth.

Which is why I don’t think the OP is believable with the altered timeline. People asked about the contract and she left that question unanswered.

You really need to read all the FB comments.

what appears to have happened is that OP went off to college and gave the pony to BO. BO apparently has dozens of witnesses ready to testify they were told by OP she gave he pony to BO. OP is a disadvantaged kid and BO bails her out a number of times with different horses sent to her when OP gets in over her head. OP comes home and starts working for BO. Steals tack items from customers/boarders and skims money from lesson program. BO has supported this kid for years and won’t believe it but eventually gets video surveillance evidence of OP stealing stuff. Broken-hearted, kicks OP out/fires her. OP wants pony back too to when she leaves with her other horses in a huff. Bo says no, it is mine, I have been caring for it for 9 years. If you want it back pay the back expenses. OP doesn’t, BO tried to clear the title by going through the official lien process. Gets title by auction as required by law. OP sneaks through the woods in the middle of the night and takes pony anyway.

many broken-hearted students who love pony are devastated as is BO who loves her herd. Pony is locked up in a stall out of sight somewhere. BO goes to the police and is going through the process of both finding Pony that way and getting a warrant for OP.

that’s my brief synopsis of what the facts seem to be based on FB. So very different than the OP! A good reminder to us all not to recommend just taking the disputed horse willy nilly. ā€œConsult a lawyer and follow legal channelsā€ is better advice and at least the BO seems to have tried to do this.

Or BO could have let OP take her pony along with the other horses when she evicted/fired OP, and be shut of the whole mess and drama.

It sounds like BO is not averse to a little drama herself.

@fordtraktor holy sheet! I just read the comments. The OPs mother, on the BOs personal fb page apologizes to the BO. So, after reading that I believe the BO in this crazy twisty saga.

I am not sure I would let a pony I loved for 9 years go back to a person who has repeatedly let horses fall into neglect.

I am also not sure the apologizer is the OP’s mom. Don’t think it is myself. I think that mom has a daughter in BO’s program and knew OP and didn’t want to think this of her. The thought it over and apologized for suggesting BO should not have put it on FB. But I didn’t work hard trying to find the identity of the OP, maybe someone else can clarify the relationship.
