This time instead of showjumping, it was on XC with event rider and international judge Christian Landolt. He said his stirrup broke in about the same place as the showjumper’s break, and his stirrups are only 3 years old.
Geez, and those things are pretty expensive too!
I’ve known of people getting the bight of their rein caught in the stirrup too! No thanks.
I finally got to feel these at Rolex and thought they were too heavy for my liking. Seems there is a QC issue too. Not safe now is it.
For $370 list price, I’m in no danger of buying these irons. The last pair I bought cost $40 and I thought I’d paid too much. Was hoping to find used for $10.

Not that it changes my reaction, but he wasn’t on XC at the time. From the article:
“All I can say is that luckily I was not going across country at the time.”
Still not tempted to dump my old fillis irons.
Oops. My mistake. He said that the break happened after dressage, and like a fool, I just assumed that XC comes after dressage.
