My daughter is going to show in a freestyle reining class. Has long flowy skirt. How do we keep said skirt long & flowy, but in the center of the horse? Any breeze pulls it to the side & the effect is lost.
Suggestions?
Sew straps with Velcro ends on the inside of the skirt that can go on the inside of her lower leg somewhere from her knee to shin or at both points .depending on where the skirt hits. It works best with Velcro tabs on both sides of the leg with the strap running inside her leg. I hope that makes sense, hard to describe. Not just a loop around.
It takes some trial and error as that skirt will want to ride up and back, some double sided sticky tape on the inside of the skirt sticking it to her leg might be in order as well. You know, there are mounted drill and square dance teams out there that work astride wearing long, flowing skirts ( that are not culottes). Should be able to find out what they do via google.
I started in Ayrabs and helped friends with the Trash Class…Er…“Native” Costume. Got good at securing bits and pieces as Hand Gallop as a group was required. Biggest problem with flowey anything was it riding up the leg and sliding back behind it revealing the whole leg. Theres always duck tape too.
She’ll need to try out whatever you do at speed and be sure there’s nothing to get hung up in but think with a little thought you’ll be fine. Lots of folks do it, there’s ways to pull it off.
Does duck tape quack?
The ones I have seen are made where you can wrap a bit around the leg and fasten there and that alone keeps them in place.
If they run up as mentioned above, a string around the foot in front of the heel helps keep it there.
You could email Tracy Westfall.
She has performed freestyles with flowing gowns.
She is a very nice person, may be able to help your daughter.
