Freeze Branding - Who does it in Alberta??

Hey there

Quick question for a friend of mine. Due to horses being stolen in her area she is looking into freeze branding hers.

Does anyone know of someone who does it in Alberta - Edmonton area.

Figured the standarbred horses get down by someone in the area.

Will cross post to Sport Horse breeding as well.

It seems to be fairly stress free for the foals from what I have seen here at the farm. All the Aussi TB get branded as foals , generally still on their dams.

Just a quick clip where the brand is going, splash some baby oil i think but I’m not sure why, then stick the brand on that has been sitting in the liquid nitrogen. Generally only use a neck twitch and ear twitch on the foal and your good to go. Sometimes if we are organized we do the mircochipping (neck) and DNA stuff at the same time.

The brand kind of scabs but not quite like it would with a hot brand.

Pretty cool to watch and unfortunately I don’t have any good pics of the process.
